manual shift knob on automatic

Post by rseldner » Mon Apr 21, 2008 3:02 pm

My roomie and i got these pretty good looking manual shift knobs...however we both have automatics (he has an 01 eclipse, i have a 00 neon). so we've got some rigging to do. has anyone else tried this b4?

funny, someone on another board was talking about ripping out the aut shift lever and the gear indicators and putting in a manual stick shift with a leather boot... and still just use it to select the auto

.. I think most shot down the idea, would take ALOT of work, and u wouldn't kno what position the lever was in.

But as a answer closer to yer post, I looked around quite a bit a while back, to find a replacement knob MADE for the auto..with some kind of button and all... never did find anything suitable that would actually work... had a few people that did one, but said they really had to jerry-rig it to get it to work.

So good luck, but think it would take some work

are you talking about just changing the knob? or the whole assembly? you can take off the atx handle (hex bolt on front of handle) and put the manual knob right on it.. instead of a button, you push down on knob and select gear.. that wont get rid of the gear bezel, but you can change the knob,,

the problem is making the knob stay snug and in place, meanwhile be able to push it down and have it come back up without losing the "snugness" hehe. looks like we've got it figured out. i will post some pics up soon. looks nice.

There is a company that sells them. It looks like a MTX ball but it is tightened on the rod and all you do is push down.
This is from a friends car.
