HELP ME! ahh, cadlyac convertor 2000 neon

Post by Jadz » Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:41 pm

Could someone explain or show me the to go about changing the cadlyac convertor on a 2000 neon LX. i have the universal unit in my car already, i believe because the oxygen sensor is on the outside of the unit it looks like. my question is, could you guys tell me if i am right to use the universal unit, or is it a specialized cat, here are a few pics that will help you help me, haha.
and if anyone wants to be amazingly helpful could you provide me with a "HOW TO" site or diagram on how to remove and replace the cat. [img] [/img]

Here is the new cat that i wanna use, is it gonna fit correctly?

Hey buddy.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, BUT I am going to take a stab at this.

Your new CAT appears that it should work great. BUT, it also appears that it's a weld application. What that means is you need to take it in to a shop to cut out your old cat, and weld in that new one. Unless of course you can do it yourself.

Places like Modern Performance sell FULL Cat OEM replacement's, BUT the one you got there is just a simple weld replacement. SO, that's my answer.....and I think I am about 99.9% that i'm right on.

Good luck.

I'm going to go with witeout on this one it does seem like a weld application and just do what witeout said about go to a shop and get it put on.

P.S. sorry witeout I couldn't figure out the quote thing right and if you know how let me my brain is not working right at this moment.

also note (i already replied to his post over at neontuners) shops will not replace a working cat convertor, its illegal to do so. but some will do so off the books.

I didn't want to start a new post so I thought I would just ask my newb question here.

Would this replace my CAT? I really don't want my CAT, and was wondering if this would be a good replacement? It says 5hp-10hp which I know is a lie, but would I get this gains in low end rpm or high end rpm?

the best thing to do would get another downpipe and have the new cat welded to it... that way you can say "its for off road purposes" and that way they can't say no, because its not gonna be installed in the car... at least not by them. :D

So let me get this straight, it welds to the catalytic converter? Can't I just have straight pipes and have that resonator in place of a CAT? In other words, could that resonator replace the CAT? I will just tell them its for offroad. Plus I am Ks, they don't give a hoot.

shiut, if thats the case, just get rid of everything and just run a straight pipe.

I kind of want the resonator so it won't be loud. I have the r/t exhaust which really isn't that loud.... so you think I should just run straight pipes? I don't want anything too loud. Any downfalls w/o having a CAT? Besides getting in trouble for it. Performance wise.

fromwhat ive heard in cali the cat has to be welded not bolted on. has to do with it fuctioning correctly at all times and not being tampered with. you know...

with the r/t exhaust, it shouldn't be too loud. since youre still gonna be using a muffler. you'll probably get a nice little rumble out of it. i would say try the straight pipe first, if its too loud, then go with the resonator... try it with clamps first, after you decide on which one, then get it welded.
