Exhaust options for 2003 R/T
Hello,
I have been thinking about doing something with the exhaust on my pretty much stock 2003 R/T. I would like it to have a deeper growl. Aside from replacing the entire exhaust system, what are some affordable options? I don't want to go with the SRT cat-back because I have the lip kit cut to fit my R/T tips. Can I just add a glass pack or replace the muffler? If so, what would you recommend?

Mopar by Borla. It's like $700+ from Borla, or find one on ebay for around $500. You could try removing your catalytic converter, but it's not exactly legal.
There's something wrong with my exhaust, says everyone, and it rattles and whines and shit, but the stock R/T exhaust is good. I completely know what you mean when you say you want something deeper and more menacing.

We just had a thread about the r/t muffler replacement here: http://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=30465
I highly recommend the magnaflow camaro specific muffler #12266. It's a single in dual out muffler that fits perfect and sounds awesome. It's not too loud but not quiet by any means. I put up a few videos of the sound, but it's actually a bit louder now that the muffler has broken in. It reminds me of the stock 350z exhaust, but deeper and louder throughout the entire rpm range.
I get compliments every day on the sound, mostly from V8 guys that are amazed a little 4 banger sounds that nice. It puts these little honda ricer mufflers to shame. Not so loud that it attracts cops, but you definitely get noticed. I ended up spending $200 total for everything installed, which is much cheaper than any quality catback or axle back system you will find.
Just make sure to go to a reputable muffler shop to install it, so you don't end up with the tips being uneven. Mine was slightly off, so I had a local shop lift the right side up a little. It was mainly due to the bumper angle and the hanger coming loose. I need to get another clip of the sound, but this weather has been horrible lately.

Are these guys still making Neon systems? The one linked is stainless but they also have cheaper aluminized pipes. There's a couple of sound files of the system on an ACR in there. When I need an exhaust system I think I'd get this one.

Nice find, I didn't realize any place was using the camaro muffler in an actual kit. The 2nd "driveby" sound clips sounds like mine, but the first one just revving doesn't. That one sounds raspy and a bit more high pitched.
I guess that isn't really a bad price for a true catback system. Seeing as how money is a factor, just getting the muffler is going to be the cheaper option by about $200.
I was in the same boat, I just bought the car and money was tight, and the exhaust on the car was a ghetto dual exhaust. Wasn't really much info about the muffler, so I took a chance and had it installed. Best choice I've made so far, next to the srt rear swaybar and pt front bar.

Hmm.. That's funny. I have that exact exhaust but mine sounds more like the guy revving. Sounds much better (deeper) once the car is warmed up, you notice that with your's as well ?Donkeypuncher wrote:Nice find, I didn't realize any place was using the camaro muffler in an actual kit.
