Air box lid attachement ?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Air box lid attachement ?

Post by jmr » Fri Apr 25, 2008 11:32 am

The airbox lid is held on by 5 bolts that thread into metal speednuts with 2 small tangs. Has anyone had a problem with the 2 metal tangs cracking and the speednut falling off? The dealer doesn't sell the speednuts separately. What are you guys using for a replacement speednut?

That's probably the way to go. I couldn't believe the parts guy at the
dealership he said you have to buy the hole air box since the speednut isn't sold separately.

Autozone has 6mm speednuts that will work perfectly.

Any good auto parts store should have them. Just pull one off and take it up there to, they should be able to find it for you.

Yeah, I yanked mine off and threw an aftermarket filter on there until I put the CAI on. If you're going to modify it and make a ram air I understand, but it performs very well otherwise.

Mine was missing 2 bolts and I was too lazy to go find replacements. Car runs much better without it, even though many say that it sucks in hot air.

Is there enough clearance for wing nuts? would be nice from an access standpoint, no screwdriver needed, but might not look too clean...

not too sure about the clearance for the wing nuts.
but i have too removed my filter box lid with a k&n filter in it. i have an 04 r/t 5spd. 2.0l magnum ed. one thing that i have noticed with it off is that the higher rpm sweet spot has increased in rpms. it use to be at or around 3400rpm and now its at or around 5400rpm. is this suppose to happen and is there anything that i can do to get alittle better acceleration in the lower rpms in any gear other than first.

Put your lid back, and see if it goes back to normal. If it doesn't maybe your butterfly valves are stuck open.
