Newbie and Ebay UDP question.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Newbie and Ebay UDP question.

Post by Mach » Wed Apr 30, 2008 2:59 pm

Hey all,

I've been a lurker on neons.org for awhile then I found this awsome site. Its a great mass of knowledge for neons.

I own a 2002 manual base. I will post some pics of it later.

But now I have a quick question.

I picked up an ebay UDP and it seems the outer smaller pulley is to wide.

Our pulleys are 3 rib but the UDP outside pulley is made for a 4 rib belt. I could see this causing the belt to slip and be thrown.

Has anyone had this problem with these ebay special UDP's?

I tried search but no luck.

As long as the ribs are the same spacing and width i don't think the extra rib will hurt. Just need to figure out if the belt needs to go to the inner three or the outer three. I would remove the oem one and check that the offsets are correct before installing. if the pulleys don't match the oem's (Standing on the crank part, pulleys up) I would send it back.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

:withstupid:

I would be leery of the fact that it has a different belt width. It should work fine if the offset is correct. The biggest problem would be if the udp mis-aligned the belts to the accessories which would cause your belts to fray and/or been thrown off.

If the spacing is ok you should be able to run the 3 rib belt on the 4 rib pulley.

And Welcome to your new home :D
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
