DOHC stands for dual overhead cam. So you said dual overhead cam cam. Kinda funny. Pretty sure it's the same engine. Oh by the way: SEARCH. I could have sworn this question has been asked several times recently.

latief has it right. The engine is the same as the GT Cruiser, but the base does not have the extra oil squirters and neither has the "SRT" intake manifold. Plenty of people are upgrading though so you shouldn't have much difficulty getting a stocker on srtforums...

What these guys said. The parts that are on the GT Cruisers and SRT's are upgraded, but interchangeable.

hmm ok....

the heads and block on all the 03+ 2.4's were the ones with the new oil passages
those will not work with the older motors until its welded shut

the crank on all 03+ srt4s and PTs aka NGC have the trigger wheel in a new spot, it will not directly swap with the older blocks and vice versa (though I've seen a claim of one modded to work)
not sure how it was done or if its true

there are 3 PT cruiser motors

NON NGC made until 02 which is a normal 2.4
but with the better oval head ports

Non Turbo NGC which does NOT have the strong rods and pistons from the turbo motors
and does NOT have the oil passages tapped for squirters

the turbo NGC of course is like the SRT4 but with a different intake manifold
In the PT cruiser these come intercooled and non intercooled but i believe they are the same motor

This is all of course from memory but its not hard to verify

OK, from what I've found, the Pre NGC's have the crank sensor mounted by the oil filter on the dampner end. The NGC's have the Crank position sensor mounted on the flywheel end. They use a different "tone wheel" resolution, also. They wanted to make damn sure there would be no "updating" to keep the older stuff on the road without swapping to all NGC controls.

Right on the specs
though i doubt that was the goal or even a concern
its extreemly expensive to retool castings
especially if it were just to stop older cars from having newer motors
they tend to not care about older vehicles once they are paid off and almost (at the time) out of production lol
