Can't decide on a tire size

Post by w0158981 » Fri May 02, 2008 1:20 pm

Hey so i can't decide what tire size would be best to run on 16" rims (what size came on the stock 16" rims?
i don't want to risk
A) messing with the speedo
b) or ruining the rim with a small tire because the roads here aren't really that great.

so whats everyone think?

I think tire rack says that 215/45/16 is the correct upsize for our cars. That tire size is 23.6" tall and stock size is 23.7" tall, so that is going to be about as close to stock height as you are going to get.

205/50/16 is 24.1" so it to is close, but it all depends on how close to stock you want it to be.

A very aggressive tire would be 225/45/16

like i said as like as it dosen't messwith my speedo and is tall enough to not stress the rim,

thats one of the key reasons i didn't get 17"s only 205/40/17's fit and there is no tire, i'd bend a rim

215/45 is a good bit of meat, 205/50 is a little more meat.

215/45/16 will be half a mph off
205/50/16 will be 1.6 mph off

Here's a handy tire speed calculator plug your tire sizes in here to get speedo corrections.

What wheel will you be using? If its the stock R/T wheel, you are limited on tires because the width is only 6". The 215/45-16 is the closest to stock height but needs at least a 7" wheel. 205/50-16 will be ok on a 6 inch wheel and according to the speed calculator 100 kph on the speedo is actually 101.7kph
