2.5L - 2.0L

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Post by cbjones26 » Sat May 03, 2008 8:03 pm

i know this might be a dumb question but will a cam from a 95 2.5 L from a dodge caravan work or the head or any other part of the engine for performance wise, I got all these parts for free so if it doesn't work its not a big deal

I know some parts from the 2.2/2.5 will fit our engines, but I don't know exactly what.

^^^
I think maybe the the pistons/rods will work in a 2.4 for destroking or something in that nature, but other than that, not much is interchangeable for bolt on upgrades....

The head could be made to fit,with work, but ppl are doing it the other way: Neon head on 2.2/2.5. The older head is only 8 valve so installing it on your Neon would be a downgrade. Plus the intake and exhaust would be on the same side. (Cowl/firewall)

Exactly, The stock 2.2/2.5 head keeps you around 350hp when pushing those engines. I've heard of guys throwing a $100 stratus head on there and jumping to over 400 on the exact same setup...

If you are sticking with the 2.0, then a magnum head would probably be the way to go.

Correction;

If you're sticking with SOHC, Magnum is the way to go. Otherwise a stock dohc head will still outflow a race ported SOHC (non-magnum).

Don't just throw a "better" head on there for no good reason. What is your goal powerwise? will it be a Daily Driver only? a little track time? Only track? These all have different combinations of parts that shouldn't be mismatched or your spending money where you won't see a gain...

Look at swapping in a Stratus 2.4 with crane 18s and a mid-tube header from Modern Performance. It's the best DD setup there is...

Street racing has no place on the streets, if that makes sense. The only time you should consider such a thing is when you AND ONLY you will reap the benefit of blowing out a tire at 100+mph. That setup will give you some decent mid-range power whcih is perfect for autocrossing, which you should have plenty of in NY. Google it and check out your local region. Driving around an hour to an event is definetely "Close enough". Hell, I drive 2.5 hours into the next state just for some real seat time where your actually timed so YOU KNOW your faster and not just thinking you are...
