have to put her to sleep

Post by alsey_seven » Sun May 04, 2008 3:00 am

i have to put my 2gn to sleep during the week. Gas has offically at $4.00 a gal. since i drive a total of 60 miles a day ( thats about a tank of gas a week )

thats $200.00 a month just to get to work
another $80.00 for weekends give or take

i might just buy a transit pass and ride the commuter bus to work $90.00 a month.

has anyone else adjusted their joyride? i should just buy a smart car  or get a motorcycle

I have cut back to strictly commuting to both of my jobs, no pleasure driving (or Carlisle this year). Public transit is non-existent in Indianapolis (we do have a bus system but it is a joke and doesn't go anywhere near my jobs, especially the times of day that I work). :cussing:

yeah... I can't use mass transit either.... it would take 3X as long with about 8 transfers between multiple county transit systems. We're almost at 4.00/gallon as well.... That really sucks, but gotta do what yo gotta do.

From beginning of January thru end of March I got around on the bus up here and left the Neon parked.

Now with the snow gone I have the Neon out again and am enjoying it. I put on about 7 miles/day going to work... with a few more miles on the weekend for running around.

I DO pay attention to those items that will help conserve the gas:

-Keep close track of the tire inflation and adjust as necessary.

-Keeping the speed down.

-Driving ahead... meaning keeping an eye on what is coming up and avoiding situations where the fuel gets mashed when there is a red light coming up.

-No jerking the car around with hard acceleration or braking. I drive like there is an egg between my foot and the fuel pedal.

I drive when I want, Where I want, and as much as I want. I don't let gas prices change anything..

If it really came down to it I would eat out one less time a week..

Hard work pays off.

either way, im gonna need gas despite the price of it, so ill continue to drive like i normally do. Buying a different vehicle just because of gas prices isnt smart IMO, because then you have to start car payments ontop of gas causing you to spend more money. Public transit is great for those who live close to the stops and have easy access to it. But for me, I live out in the country, only busses that come out here, are school busses, and they are from the next town over. (my town doesnt have its own school system)

Side note, I saw a smart car yesterday goin down the road, I swear to god i wanted to get out and tip it over on its side. Honestly, I bet i could have done it. The thing was so small and ugly, and the person driving it was going SO FKIN SLOW.

I wouldn't call them stooopid .... because sooner or later, we might ALL be left driving micro-cars, if the price of gas gets as high as some pundits claim it will go. :(

I heard speculation as high as $10 per gallon. I laughed. Our country will shut down before gas reaches that kind of price.

Imagine spending $110 to fill a neon, or $250 or more to fill a full size truck or SUV. People don't make enough money for that to happen.

I am skeptical, too....because if gas got that high then DEMAND will go WAAAY down.
It might get to $7, or $8... I guess we will see.

Meanwhile, I combine my trips, drive sanely, and split rides when possible.

I know a guy where I work, who drives 40 miles per day, $pends $80 per week, refilling his Ford Excursion SUV.
$80 per week x 4 wks.per month = $320+ for gas PER MONTH.
($400 if you count using a 5-week month).

I drive TWICE as many miles as he does, and my entire gas bill for the month is half of that.

We're going to switch to four 10 hour days at work soon. That alone will cut 2 gallons of gas a week for me. I'm probably gonna end up moving out of my shit hole...I mean house and back somewhere closer to where I work.

I drive how I want. The only big change is that we are taking the neon, rather than the jeep, when we go any further than 5 or 10 miles.

Just drive. Use your head, don't be a dummy, its that simple.
