2.4L swap question(s)?
2.4L swap question(s)?
So are there any big differences in the way a 2.4L swaps into a 2gn? I know the motor mounts are different but all of the PT brackets should work right (IE AC, PS, and Alt)? Anyone have any pics of a 2.4L swap into a 2gn?

Ok I know with a 1gn all that technically needed to be done to do a 2.4L motor swap was to install a motor mount conversion bracket on the passengers side to drop the motor down, flip the rubber part of the transmission mount upside down in it's mount, take the coil wires and flip the two outside wires, and you move the injector wires from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and 4-1. Didn't see any write-up on how to do a 2gn swap. The engine I would be using came from a 1998 Stratus.

What I found on Neons.org:
realistically the easiest way to get a 2.4 running in a 00-02 neon.
srt-4 side motor mount bracket, keep your current transmission, upgrade to a stronger clutch - pt clutch at least, 2.0 dohc intake manifold, dohc exhaust manifold of some sort - preferably longtube header.
get 24 lbs injectors. your car already has a 58 psi regulator.
get a s-afc or MS to tune the car, probably not required b/c the fuel maps in the 00-02 PCM are made for a 58 psi regulator with 19 lb injectors.
so the 24's should be okay with mild mods.
you might have to step up to 26 or 30 lb'ers if you do massive bolt-ons (ie, cams!)
get the pt cruiser ps, alternator, and a/c brackets.
use your current engine wiring harness.
change the cam positioning sensor over to a dohc setup (if they are different, maybe change length)
swap outer wires on the coilpack.
move the injector wiring over 1, etc....
extend the coolant temp sensor plug.
maybe mess with the TPS and IAC wiring length.
that's should be about it, shouldn't be much different than doing it in a 1st gen.
my guess is that it's easier b/c the engine bay actually houses a 2.4 from the factory.

Free bump for you .....
I wonder how many other 2gn people have done a 2.4 swap into a 2nd Gen (aside from a 2.4 SRT-4 motor swap).
If so, they would know..... I should start asking around.

From what I found on Neons.org it sounds very similar to a 1st Gen Neon 2.4L motor swap which I have done so aside from different motor mounts then the 1st Gen the wiring is essentially the same.

Hmmm..... Cool.invujerry wrote: Apparently the motor mounts are identical. He had his 2.4 motor running on his stock sohc computer, and he was running nitrous on it. His name was jelloman457.
Thanks for the tip .....
Maybe I'll get bored someday and try an N/A 2.4 swap.

I plan to do a Non-SRT-4 2.4L Turbo swap with the old 3-speed transmission I use to have.....was going to go MTX and I am working to get my 3-speed w/ all good parts handling a boosted 2.4L.
