Kicker Sub

Post by 2k1MotorSport » Thu May 08, 2008 12:59 pm

I looked at the how-to on this and it was close to my application.

I'm thinking about buying the kicker sub for my R/T But i was also curious to know how i would wire it up to a 'stock' RB4 radio. It has no RCAs just the OEM connectors.

Didn't know if this would be very easy to do or not.

I believe its step 8. I think i need to splice into one of the speaker wires to get the signal. It tells you to get the male RCA plug and tells you how to wire it. It doesent seem to difficult but i like this kind of thing

are you talking about the stock kicker sub and amp from the srt and some sxt's? If so, it doesnt use rca's for the amp, its just a 12 or 14g wiring harness. It also uses the front speakers for signal.

no, it uses the signal that goes to the front speakers as it's input. it has a small amplifier to power that signal to make it louder for the sub.

yes. the best way to do it is to remove the radio and splice into the wires there. you only need to splice into one set of wires (meaning one + and one - line from one speaker).

be warned... don't expect a lot from the kicker setup. i have had regular speakers that provided more bass.

Correct. If you get the kicker setup from a wrecked car, make sure they send you the harness from the amp to the sub, and the plug that goes into the amp, with about 6" of wires still attached to it as well, or youll have to use a different amp, and maybe sub.

i have heard that the kicker setup doesn't provide a lot of bass.. that fine since i don't want a thumping car. Just a little something extra. My kicker speakers should be here tomorrow.

Best Buy/Circuit City sells a stock adapter that you can wire into the back of your stock unit. Their's 2 wires, white & black. At the opposite end of those wires you hook up is a box with rca outputs. Very easy setup, the techs at those stores can also printout which wires to splice including the color of them.

Well, my car doesn't vibrate but the bass is impressive for a factory unit in my opinion. Of course, I grew up with 8-tracks and cassettes in cars with tiny little speakers (and thought that I was on the cutting edge when I had my first Sony Discman with the cassette adapter playing in my Omni  ). Seriously, I think that the Kicker does a pretty good job.

that would work fine if the stock kicker setup ran off RCA's, but it dosent

Here's the instructions that should come with the sub if your getting the kit.

http://www.moparsupercenter.com/pdfs/KICK01.pdf

Look at page three, They show you how to hook it up to the stock unit.

You have to unhook one of your 6x9's (driver's side) and plug the wiring harness between the wire from the radio and the speaker.
