Exhaust hitting frame

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Exhaust hitting frame

Post by neonxrt » Sat May 10, 2008 7:07 am

Got my exhaust pipe replaced a few months back and I thought something was up when I heard a rattle coming from the back. To make a long story short, the tons of snow and my laziness resulted in me waiting too long to check out exactly what it was, and when I did the place that did it (Car-X :cussing: ) said they won't do anything about it for free. It turned out to be the exhaust slighty resting on the part of the frame (at least that's what I think it is) that it goes over. They apparently did not bend the pipe correctly!
The rattle only happens when taking off from a dead stop, so its not that bad, just annoying. Anyone have any good ideas (besides taking it off and bending it correctly) on how to get the annoying rattle to stop?

is there any way you can take pics of where you think its hitting the frame? is it near the center or near the drivers side wheel?

Right by the driver side rear wheel, front side of the metal frame part that the pipe goes over. I'll try to get a picture up soon if that doesn't help explain it.

yeah if you can somehow get a pic, that would be great.

Is it an aftermarket midpipe? Look just above the rear drivers side wheel well, there is an exhaust hanger there. check to see if the midpipe is hanging properly from the hanger.

take a hose clamp and put it on the closest hanger (rubber) and draw it down a bit tighter. $1.36 fix.

I like your thinking! I'll try it, take photos and post it.
