What does this connect to?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

It's a temp sensor of some sort. I know two years ago during the winter I thought that it was for fogs and unplugged it, let the car idle for around 15 minutes and the temp gauge was 3/4 of the way up.

It is an ambient air temperature sensor for the rear view mirror compass/temperature display. If you don't have the compass/temp mirror then there will be nothing connected to it.

I guess it was cheaper to build all neons with the harness. At least I know I can have a functional mirror if I ever upgrade.

^^^ thats exactly what its for... and it uses the same sensor/plug as the intake air temperature sensor.. so if you got the special mirror and another temp sensor, you'd be good to go.. i personally think it'd be a cool upgrade, its just kinda pricey for just a mirror.

It would be more of a "junkyard special" upgrade. Not sure how common the mirror is though, I haven't seen one on a neon personally. Maybe the pt uses the same one, might have to check that out.

Cool. Thanks for the input guys. Yeah its actually one upgrade that I'm thinking of. The company that I work for does a lot of automotive in their other divisions. I could get a sweet deal on an auto dimming mirror.

i had the plain mirror when i got my car, recently i threw in an r/t mirror with the maplights, they auto-dim and its pretty nice.. but if it had the temperature and compass, that would be pretty cool.. Im trying to remember what models they came in, I think someone said r/ts with full leather package, and sunroof could have them as an option, but i could be wrong. Afaik, Town&countrys use the same compass/temp mirror.. in the fully loaded models anyway

The full tilt mirror should be available from your dealer for the closeout price of about $250.

That is atleast what it was a year or two ago, it probably went up since then.

I checked on mine this morning and it doesn't have the connector... but then again I don't have the temperature gauge in the mirror either. :)

I was looking at the wiring diagrams in the FSM, and it looks like it may have only been an option with a sunroof. I'm not sure how much wiring is involved, or if you would need the sunroof harness to make it work.

wait hold up a sec. i dont have a sunroof or a mirror and i have that sensor.

it is an air temp sensor of some kind but i thaught it was to detect the temp of the air outside to calculate either the A/F ratio or for some sort of cooling calculation.

if this is the sensor for the mirror then is it also possible that other 05's just came with it anyway, mine is a May '05 build

yea i do. :slap:

I have a base neon, no sunroof, no power, no map lights. I have that sensor. For all who been wondering, I looked in the service manual for 30 mins and its the Ambient Temp Sensor. The ATS is monitored by the compass temperature mirror. Basically it tells the outside temp on the compass mirror.

We are so much further then that at this point, i guess you don't read replies. We know what its for, we want to know which models it could come on as an option, since it was not an option for my 2002Le.

Every neon has the connector, now it's just a matter of finding the ones with a temp sensor actually plugged into that connector.

Hmm, anyone else with an 00-01 want to check and see if they have the connector. Looks like most in this thread have an 02+. I'll check the '00 FSM and see if they list it like the '04 manual.

00-02 the temp sensor for the mirror pretty much was a direct wire running to it with it being powered from the mirror itself. In '03+ they changed that so he temp sensor first goes to the PCM then is distributed from there up to the mirror if I remember right. I wired my temp sensor in on the white car since it originally had it before I did the swap and just ran the wiring down to the sensor from the mirror... works like a charm.
