after installing the srt hood i bought off my friend I decided to take off the lid to the stock air box. lets alot more air in and sounds great with the srt rear section. all i need now is a drop in K&N filter to finish it off.

You are probably losing power because you are sucking in hot air from the engine bay instead of air from the wheel well. Basically you made yourself a hot air intake. You want to get the coldest, most dense air into the combustion chamber as possible. That is why Cold-Air Intakes (CAI) are available. The SRT-4 hood scoop was designed to take air back to the turbo to cool it off.

You should look up 'PVO hood mod'. That's what I am planning on doing. Ram air FTW!

I want to see the evidence of the differences in air temperatures between intakes. I'm pretty sure it doesn't affect anything.

It really depends on the temp in your area of the country/world. If it's cold most of the time then it's fine with no top and a K&N filter. If you live in the south with hot summers then it's better for a real CAI the routes to the fender.

just try taking the intake resonator out, its inside the drivers side fenderwell. You should see similar results soundwise and not lose power, possible gain with a K&N filter.

If you cut the hood above the air box its cooler air when moving.

On an SRT the hood mod does not make that much of a difference as tested by PVO, also on an SRT, unless you plug the vents in the hood above the turbo, at a stop your going to suck in the hot air its generating.
Now on a N/A motor the hood mod actually works and has a ram air effect over 55mph....

So are you saying that all Short Ram intakes are Hot Air Intakes?
