Alright, so has anyone hooked up the visors with the lights? I'm looking at the wiring diagram, and I've found wires for those and the mirror with the compass and thermometer.
But I still can't find what the light is called that I just bought. Ashtray light, or ashtray courtesy light, or whatever. 04608669AA

It depends on your wishes:
If you wanna have the possibility to use the vanity light w/o ignition key: use 12V continous. If you wanna have them off when the engine is off - use 12V "ignition".
(It will have power like the radio...)
Don't forget: You need a plug to disconnect the Visor from the power. I think the easiest and cheapest way is such a plug that you can find in every home depot:

<-- take this isolated for the car side and the other one for the visor to protect against short circuits!!!
For the ashtray light the first choice is useless i think - wire it up to the 12V ignition from the radio harness. Use this:

I have no clue what the 3rd wire is good for. I think you should test it...
In the manual i can only find 2 wires: + and -. Nothing more.
Oh: And in the manual this light is not connected to the ignition, it is connected to the instrument cluster lights (the illumination for the HAVC and switches....) - so it is only lighted when you turn headlights on.

I just remembered about this and took a quick look. Its connected to the defroster switch, or atleas thats what it looks like. I have some pics but, they are on my phone till I get home. Im working 12-9, so should be after that.

As far as the 3 wires goes, that is for the center mirror with auto-dim. One wire is 12v, one is ground, and the other gets a signal from the reverse light switch to turn off the auto-dim when you are backing up. You can leave that disconnected and the auto-dim will work fine.Swordfish2Cowboy wrote:Alright, so has anyone hooked up the visors with the lights? If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

lol, easy now! Haha.Midnight_Rider wrote:^^When someone is trying to just use OEM parts, yeah, it is that hard. But thanks for your help!
All you need is the wiring harness for the mirrors (it'll be the whole piece that goes from the dashboard, up to the roof including the mirror plug). Wish I took a picture of my install... I suck at accomplishing that.
Anyhow, one wire for power and the visors ground themselves out when you screw them into the frame. That's it

LOL I've had a set in my for sale thread for a LOL bit... But from what I've seen every 03+ that ive worked on the plug on top of the dash has all the connections you need...power etc...
Also the wire for the temp sensor on the compass/temp mirror is in that plug as well as the wire for door open illumination....

Ya, I'm with you on all that "OEM" looking stuff. Although my rearview is from a Buick Park Avenue... but that's besides the point. I got the assist handles and a non-sunroof headliner, vanity visors (and I even secured them the way the old harness was, so it looks factory)... I got a glove box light, but I can't seem to figure out how to wire it up (all the How-To's have description on the colored wires, but I don't seem to have those wires under the dash). Also got a locking glove box, but I haven't had it keyed yet. lol...Midnight_Rider wrote:^^Oh, I get it. Now to go searching for parts...
And ya, you should hit up Mike. He's where I got my harness and visors from
if you have a lighted rear view then you already have the harness for the lighted vanity mirrors. Pull off your sun visors and take a peek and you will see a wire just hanging out. If you pull your top dash cover off you will se kinda by were your drivers side tweeter is a small suare red plug this plug has 4 wires on it 3 constant 12v and one ground this is were your harness conects to. It will run up your drivers A pilar then accross the roof to your visors and rear view i can snap pictures for you guys if you need. H and by the way thane made me a set of lighted vanity mirrors for my b day

If you have a "map reading light" mirror? That's a big negatron, because I had to get a separate harness. My old harness only had the wires for the mirror, that's it. Unless you're talking about just splicing into that harness, then well... that's something I didn't want to do. Kinda what Gramps is trying to accomplish with this whole ordeal.srtjesse wrote:if you have a lighted rear view then you already have the harness for the lighted vanity mirrors.
