If I understand your post, you want to switch your '00 tach for an '01 ?

I think they are interchangeable but I could be wrong.

to swap in a cluster with a tach its direct plug and play, take old one out, put new cluster in, bam, tach and low gas light! 10 minute job

but if you havent read, the new cluster will display the mileage from the car it came from, not yours, so if its an issue for you find one as close to your miles as possible and swap when it matches..

it had one in it when i got it and it was set to 4cyc and it didnt read right so i thought i might need a tach adapter but if not my new one should work fine right?

im not positive but i think its the green wire coming from the coil pack that u want to tap into.. did u make sure that all the wires are hooked up?

meaning when it reved it was only reving to 3 grand while driving

i swapped a 2001sxt white tach cluster into my 2000 base model and it works perfectly.

for a while the fuel level gauge was a little off (wouldn't show completely full) but it works perfect now for some reason.

odometer will be wrong. just make a note and do the math for correct mileage
