Side Exhaust?
Side Exhaust?
Has anyone ever tried this? I ran across the website today and I want that exhaust.

Can anyone recommend a smaller muffler that doesn't sound like a fart can? Something louder then stock but not by much.
Thanks
Mac

Yep, there are a few ppl on here with similar set ups. Do a search, the article was just discussed a few weeks ago! There isn't much option as far as mufflers go, as the exhaust is considerably shortened. Glass packs are about your only option as not much else will fit under the car. Possibly, but likely to throw sparks on bumps, a low profile Spin-Tech but they are a bit loud too. Remember, it will sound louder inside the car, because it is right outside your window.

I read the thread about side exhaust. No mufflers were discussed.
I was thinking about making exit on the passenger side. That would quiet it down a bit. I was looking at magnaflow round mufflers. But I think my car is gonna sound like a fart can Honda.
Can anyone chime in on a good round muffler that sounds near stock.

If you go side exhaust out the passenger side in/under the rear bumper cover you can run any muffler that would fit where the OEM one mounts. But before the wheel is going to be as tough or harder to do, especially if you only want to go a little louder than stock. An SE is pretty damn quiet. If you have read the SRT exhaust threads you know what I mean, as the options are pretty much the same, the only difference is about 3 feet less pipe behind the muffler. Sgt. Brad has a pic of his side exhaust similiar to what I'm talking about in his stroker thread.

Not a good side photo, but you get the idea.

i'm using a flowmaster hushpower with a side exit before the drivers side rear tire. that muffler fits nicely in the exhaust tunnel. it wasnt very loud at all before i removed my cat. definitely doesnt sound like a fart can.

its louder than an rt but in my opinion it is quieter than most of the other round style mufflers that would fit in the exhaust tunnel. if you want the side exit before the rear tire its about as quiet as your going to get. i dont think there is enough room to fit a resonator and a muffler unless you could find a really short resonator.Mach wrote:Great thanks.
Does it sound comparable to let's say an r/t loudness wise?

get 2 morroso spiral flow mufflers, they're small but do an incredible job at making things not so loud

Re: Side Exhaust?
Honestly, why run a side exhaust? Go with a cutout for a more stealth look. That's what I would do, but then again you are looking for a side exhaust. This 03 neon around town runs with no muffler at all, just the OEM cat and no muffler, sounds almost like an SRT-4.Mach wrote:Has anyone ever tried this? This is always the dilemma when choosing an exhaust. "loud" and "drone" are relative to each persons opinion, so it's hard to choose. The way I look at it, if your music can't drown out you exhaust it's probably too loud. If your head vibrates and you can't talk or understand the passenger, the drone is probably too much.

MyNeonSaysHi aka Stephen used to have a single side exit, but he ditched it for the much better MPx 3" Turboback single exit.

i am running running stock exhaust and cat with a custom rear that dumps just after the rear wheel with no muffler or resonator and it isnt that bad at all.doesnt sound like a fart can, like someone said earler more like a srt with all the pops when down shifting ect.i like it for now.dont think side exit would be toooo much different noise wise.i can turn my music on without it being to loud to talk over and the noise doesnt bother me or my passengers.
