Hard starting problem....

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Hard starting problem....

Post by jmr » Sun May 25, 2008 11:53 am

I've got a 05 Orange Blast SXT with ATX it has 41,000 miles on it. The problem is that periodically when I go to start the engine fires up but it will then stall. To get around the problem I hold the throttle open a little then it will start ok. Then I rev it a little after it starts, it will hold the idle. I've changed the original plugs and plan on replacing wires too with MSD wires. I have tried to pull some codes but it doesn't throw any.

Could the throttle position sensor be the problem? Any ideas?

check your idle air control valve...it might be sticking at times...pull it off and see if its got carbon in it or what not.

I get the same problem on occasion. Granted my car has 151,000 right now. I replaced the IAC already...

I cleaned the IAC and so far it's been realiably holding idle. If it does it again then I'm going to replace the IAC.

The guy on ebay isn't selling them anymore so who would be a good vendor to get one from that wouldn't charge dealership prices?
