question about wheels

ok so the srt rim is 40 offset and 6 inches wide.. so if i get an 8 inch wide rim and the offset is 40 does that mean i would be adding an inch to the inside and an inch to the outside? if you understand that..

I'm pretty sure you'd be adding 2 inches to the outside.

oh ok so a 6 inch wheel and 8 inch wheel with the same offset are still the same distance from the hub to the inner wheel

just in case people want an answer "If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside." thanks dave for the insight on tire rack.. i guess it is split evenly between sides.

I got a bad feeling about an 8" wide tire with base-model struts. If you kept that same offset, I think it'd hit the spring perch. If you change the offset to acommodate that, you'd be sticking outside the wheelwell a bit.

yeah i think thats true. i think 7.5 is the maximum i can go.. and that leaves just enough room on both sides
