I'm following the SRT-4 FSM to the T, but this particular part has me confused. I've just applied the bed plate sealant, and the first three bolts. Now it says to "wedge an appropriate tool between the rear crankshaft counter-weight, and the rear of the block". I'm not sure what it means by rear, or what effect doing that will have on installing the next bolts. Any ideas??
The reason it's so urgent is because I don't want the sealant to dry too much, so please respond soon if you know!

You wedge something between the crank and the CYLINDER BLOCK (the top part of the block). The bedplate (lower part of the block) should be free to move. This pushes the lower portion of the thrust bearing into alignment with the upper portion, to ensure the upper and lower thrust surfaces fall into a single plane.
At least that's how I've read it.

Hmm, I still can't picture this in my head. Oh well, it's not so urgent now. The sealant has set, so if I fucked it up it's going to take the same amount of time to fix.

Na... you should be fine. 03blackrt was right, it was just to make sure the thrust bearing was aligned. It's easy enough to just look at the thrust bearing to see if it's ligned up or not. As long as your end play is in spec, you should be good to go.
