Automatic Tranny Shifter

Post by Fr0z3nMechanix » Mon Jun 02, 2008 5:07 pm

I'm looking for something a little more exciting than the black piece of plastic that is my shifter... I've seen universal ones... but how the heck do you remove the origional one to get a new one on... and if you guys know any place to get nice Auto tranny shifters, that would nice too.

Just use an allen wrench. Not sure what size but that will get it right out. then you just pull up on it. As for the new shifter i've been trying to find something like that too.

think this has been brought up a few times...might want to do a search here...

I was looking for a good replacement, but never found anything with a good working trigger. They say you don't really need a trigger or a button, just mount a regular stick shift style or custom one and then push down to move the shifetr...

I was messing around w/ it... and i used a T-15 Torx Wrench (It was the only thing I could find around the house). It worked perfectly. So if you've got one of those... there you go.

I'd like to see a PT auto shifter in a neon, its a 4 speed shifter, but it only has spaces for P-R-N-D-3-1 so it might work

I don't mind the shape and size of the stock piece but it would be nicer if it was covered in leather instead of the thin (and now worn down) textured vinyl. I'm going to find one from a junk yard to try out some things so I'll still have the stock one to go back to if it doesn't work out.

Anyone else gone this route that has pics?

i think i saw one in the for sale section here someone had a leather auto shifter... tahts what i swapped my plastic one out for and love it.. mine came from a pt cruiser though, 5$ on ebay.. went to install it and it was too tall had to cut the plastic stem to make it shorter which took all of 2 seconds

I'd love to do a suede shifter.
