205x40x16 or 205x45x16

Depends on what you want need from your tires. WHere do you live? Are you going to run the same tires year round? Do you want max traction or decent treadlife? HOw much do you want to spend? Tires are a lot like buying shoes...just cause they fit, doesn't mean they are right for the job.

215/45/16 = dead on

225/45/16 = hold the road like a mad man, but a hair tall, just a hair. i was considering this size when i still have plans to put nice 16s on my neon

I haven't tried the Falken's but a lot of people like them. I am running Kumho ecsta spt now and like them a lot. They don't make them in the size I need anymore so I am looking at the Falken Azenis 615, Kumho ecsta mx, yoko s drive, or the hankook ventus rs2 z212

Go to tirerack.com and start reading reviews of tires you like. discounttire.com and edgeracing.com are also good sources for info.

I'm running 205/55/16's on PT Cruiser wheels, with only a little rubbing at full lock... haven't looked to see what is rubbing yet, however.

225/45-16 is perfect on a 7 inch rim with a 40 offset, they clear everything. 205/50-16 works also with no problem but they don't look as good as the 225's.

205/40-16 is short at 22.4 inches, compare to the original Neon sizes of 175/70-14, 185/60-15 and 195/50-16 that are all 23.7 inches tall.

225/45-16 would look good, but if the wheels you're getting have a 33 offset they might be close to the fender lip. 205/50-16 would work ok.

ok one last question: if the rims width is 7 inches how can you fit a tire that is anywhere from 205-225 on it?

There is a rim width range for tires that is determined by the manufacturer, places that sell tires have these specs. If shopping online you can look them up yourself or you can ask the seller, they should know.

Here's an example. I went to Tire Rack and picked out a tire in 205/50-16 size, clicked on it's specs link and I see that tire needs a rim between 5.5" to 7.5". Your rim is 7" so you're good. If I picked 225/45 size I see 7" to 8.5" is recommended by the manufacturer, your rim width falls in this range so you'd be good there to.

check this out Miata Tire Calculator.

I think I'm going with the 225/45/16 on 16x7 slipstreams. I had a had time finding many 215/45/16. It seams that low profile 16's don't have a super huge selection.

That size tire is .1 inch shorter than your original, about the same height. It will look better though.

little late... but here's mine...Kumho 205/50's on 16 inch MB Drifter rims... [from Discount Tire] don't remember the off-set on the rims, but they come real close to rubbing in the rear (close to that stabalizer bar or whatever it is on the back wheels)...but Discount Tire mounted them, so it was on them....
