A different Ram Air Idea

I have been pondering the idea of a ram air mod, but one other than the PVO mod. My fog lights don't work, and haven't for a while. Being it's the only thing wrong with the car and I have to replace the switch on the column, I don't see a point in paying the $100 deductable my warranty carries.

So, my thought was that I could take my front left fog light out, run some kind of tube or pipe from it to the 90 degree elbow, maybe replace the elbow too, and then I definitely need to replace the filter with one that has a filter element on the end of the cone.

I'm looking for your guy's thoughts on this, and suggestions for the tubing and an alternate filter. I know that a couple EBAY filters I've bought have the inverted cone on the end of the filter, but I'm not convinced that these filters are as good as K&N or AEM. I also was considering using an old CAI pipe from an ebay kit, and depending on it's shape running it from the fog light opening to the elbow, but I'm open to better Ideas if anyone has any.

Ultimately, what I would like to do is make is so that when I go to the track, I can take the filter out and run a straight piece of pipe from the 90 degree elbow straight to the throttle body (yes, no filtration, I know it's risky). So I'd like to design a system that could serve that purpose. I'd also like to do something repeatable so I can maybe put my own kit together to help some other 2GN owners on here.

I have the part you need to fix your fogs, paypal me $50 and it's yours.

It is a nearly new turn signal switch, etc., with fog switch.....

Didn't you make a thread about this, not too long ago?

My idea was to get the air box off of an old full size GM car, can't remember off the top of my head which, I might have it in my PM box on BITOG. This air box attached directly to the TB. I even bought the K&N filter to do this, but never got around to it.

Don't run without your filter. There isn't enough gain, if any, to risk sucking something into the engine.

well, this is my first mention of a ram air mod in the fog light opening. I really just wanted to see if anyone had done it. I'll see if I can't get something rigged up this weekend, and I'll be out to the track thursday night to see if I get a gain (with a filter of course).

I have removed my fogs and cut the fog light supports off that side of the bumper so it is just the rectangular opening. I plan on getting some sheet metal or something and making a little ducting to route the air back to my CAI. no plans to close it off to make it ram air...just want to help the cool, clean air get back there.

Would the computer be able to compensate for ram air? I thought it could go lean at speed...

ram air is pointless (in a neon at least). it only becomes helpful once the air being forced in has surpassed the engine's ability to suck the air in. now i don't know exactly what the neon's point is, but on a chevy 350 it's around 120ish MPH, depending on the carb/TB

well, I'm kinda going by Chris (Black Rose Racing) because he claims to see a difference at highway speeds, and honestly, I'll do anything to make a little difference, especially if it's not going to cost me much if anything.

well keep in mind that you have an '05. that means NGC. you're not gonna see a bit of dfferance. that and the ONLY thing it could be helping for chris is his MPG. it's physically impossible to work unless the neon's "suction point" is that low.

i did that mod. i like it and i did notice a lil diffance too. i live on a dirt road and in the winter it was real muddy out here.
i did want to suck up any mud. so i put my air box back and connected a part of my cold air tube to the factory 90 degree elbow and the open end sits right behind the fog light.

so i was going to drive though a deep puddle i just take the lid off and it wont up the suck water.

I wouldn't think that would be a big issue. I was thinking of welding a tab to the end of the pipe in the fog light and then connecting a plate to it that I can take on and off to block off the intake.
