oil change time

Post by tamadrumr88 » Fri Jul 29, 2005 11:52 am

ive decided to do my own oil change for the first time and i also decided that since i wont be paying for labor, ill put that money towards buying better products (ie: redline/royal purple oil, etc). i know how the process works and ive read the neons.org faq, ive just never done it for myself

i hear alot about 20w-50 getting rid of the infamous piston slap, is this something i should look into??

should i consider synthetic @ 46k miles?

what brand filter other than an OEM/stock replacement.... fram? k&n?

thanks

5W is recomended, anything heavier sholud help with the piston slap, but you will have to change it before it gets to cold or the engine may not start because the oil is to heavy so the engine won't turn over.
Justin- I have nothing but smart ass remarks to add.

Wow...I have never heard of using anything as heavy as 20w. Well....let us know how that works out for ya. Personally I always run 5w.
