so.... thursday while i was driving to kings island amusement park with my g/f for a little vacation my cel came on and my car wouldnt go above 3000 rpm. i got off the freeway did the key flash to check the code and came up with P0016. i called my buddy while i was reseting my computer and he looked up the code and found that i was crankshaft timing mis-alignment. reseting the computer didnt help, i was already 200 miles from home and it was too late to cancel the hotel reservations so i drove my car the rest of the way there in limp mode hoping that maybe it was just a bad crank shaft position sensor. then this afternoon i proceded to drive 300 miles home while i had my dad pick up a belt and tensioner at the dealership while i was on my way. unfortunatly they had to order the waterpump so for today i just changed the belt and tensioner since i need my car monday. the waterpump will be in on tuesday so i'll do this project over again next weekend. when i got it all torn down the verdict was that my timing belt had slipped, it was two teeth off and as for the belt.....

SCARY!!!!! my car just hit 93,000 miles today and i was planning on changing the belt next weekend. i didnt want to do it this weekend because of vacation and the fact that i had just put a PT clutch in my car last weekend and didnt feel like tackling another big project so soon. so much for that idea... HA! got it all dialed in just alittle while ago though. no more cel and it runs good.

i figured you guys would like that!

screw that 90,000 mile change interval! if i decide to keep my car that long, i will be changing it in another 60,000. it wasnt that hard of a job and i definitely wish i would have done this one sooner

i'll get more practice next weekend once my waterpump comes in. woo exciting

well thankfully the srt is not an interference engine so if it goes you don't have to get into a whole rebuild.

Damn you did get lucky. I did mine at 68k even though they said that it should be done every 70k, better to be safe than sorry. As for high mileage my 04 which I've owned since mile 1 will turn over 100k in the next couple of weeks.
