im going to sound like a broken record here but kids have no business with this car at all. The sad part about it is that the srt-4 is completely tailored to kids 16-20. The car is fast, has a tuner look and is cheap enough for their parents to buy their kids as a first car. NOT SMART.

I'm sorry about the tragedy but it is true, this is not a car for kids. Sometimes I think that I'm too young for one.

SRT-4 wrecks like this is another reason why State Farm just raised my premium by $100 annually. :cussing:

what i don't understand is....

are the parents driving the car before they buy it? they would realize how freaking fast these cars are.

there will be none left in like 5 years :(

from the pics it looks like the srt slid sideways into oncoming traffic and the pickup truck t-boned the passenger side. i wonder how old the driver was.

Are you serious? When was the last time you went to srtforums and read some of the comments made by 16-21 year old srt owners there. Go do that and afterwards begin your search for posters that are 22-30. BIG DIFFERENCE

Sad but true. I have to admit that I have had my car for four years. I'm 22 years old. I got my SRT when I was 18. Besides hydroplaning and getting into an accident that way four years ago, I have treated my car with the utmost in respect. I fell into the category you are speaking of. Not all young adults are that way. There is a small percentage, like myself, who don't care about racing, driving recklessly and going fast as hell regardless of the terrain. I love my SRT and respect it each and every day I drive it.

I will agree that almost every SRT accident is from racing or reckless driving with some young person driving. But please...not all of them are that bad. I know I wasn't. I have had a totally scot free driving record since I started driving when I was 16 years old. I know I'm not typical at all. I'm also not a typical female driver...I don't apply makeup when driving or drink coffee and do my nails.

I'm not saying I disagree with Kevo and the rest of you, I agree...wholeheartedly. These cars, Mustang GTs, Evos, STis, etc. are far too powerful for kids who are just starting out to drive. The SRT is probably the worst of the bunch. With no traction control, and being a powerful FWD monster, it should wear a warning label about its torque steer, because if you aren't ready the car WILL drive you.

I just wanted to say that there is that 2% of people that are young that own these that respect them...and I am one of them. Just so you know that not all people who owned SRTs "young" act like idiots. Then again there is the 22-30 year old crowd that own them...and yet still have not learned their lessons.

I don't know if we should stereotype the kids as idiots, or the parents. I think the parents ignorance is at fault just as much as the kid's ignorance.

Sorry..../end rant

*edit* These idiots give me high insurance rates too. Scot free record and STILL $200/mo for full coverage. I hear ya gramps.

I have seen a lot of young kids driving and getting killed in 1st gen Eclipses and Talons. You can pick them up for around 1500. Easy and cheap to make to fast for a 16 year old. My first car was an 82 Datsun 280ZX Turbo, I would sware up and down it was the fastest thing on the street. They just need parents to watch what they giving there kids. I have seen a lot of very fast cars built out of parents wallets for very young kids and they have never even sat in the car.

Scary stuff. That's the kind of thing that keeps me driving the way I do, safe and sound. Keep it on the track.

Not much left to donate off that car.

Again, not to take attention away from a serious accident, my semi-annual premium was due this month and, just when I really can't afford it, State Farm jacked up my rate by $100 annually due to the reputation of the model that I drive. I've been driving for 32 years without a ticket and no at-fault accidents, never mind the thousands of miles I drive for my jobs each month, but my premium is affected by the driving habits of careless strangers.[/end rant]

I will agree with you there, the rep of a car does cause it to go up, but for each individual driver, there is also your credit score, which is what more and more car insurance co. are moving towards to figure the price of insurance per customer... you may want to check out freecreditreport.com and make sure your credit isn't shot to hell. I called up my insurance the other day to get a quote for an SRT under all the same stuff I have now, and I will still be paying the same amount. My credit score is VERY nice.

Either someone is pulling your leg telling you it is the car, or you credit is going down.

Credit scores as of 5-12-08:

Experian/Fair, Isaac, Score=823
Equifax/Beacon, Score=811
TransUnion/Fico Classic, Score=795

Scores this high are very good so I doubt that my credit rating is causing the premium increase.

My scores are only a few points lower than his. I have impeccable credit. RI is a VERY high insurance cost area to begin with. We have the highest cell phone tax in the nation too (18%) and the highest property tax of any state (stupid little state of liberals). I have all discounts available through my company since our homeowners is with them also. Mine is a combination of the area and the car. Its on the top ten most expensive cars to insure list. Right there with the Evo.

I've owned my srt for 4 years now and I'm now 26. I've got alot of respect for this car and it needs it. There fast stock and stupid fast when built. I've got a tuned stage 3 with bolt ons making 400 to the wheels and it's just as easy for a teen to buy or get there parents to buy the needed parts. Most of the time the parents think there doing a good thing cause there kids are out in the driveway working on the car instead of other "worse" things.
