hey guys...I am trying to figure out my AC issue. If i dont figure it out soon, i will bite the bullet and take her in.
last summer it died at the end of summer, 2 months ago i got a DIY kit and as soon as i hooked the can up to the low pressure side the clutch kicked in and i had cold air...this only lasted a couple weeks. The stuff i put in had red dye(not the uv stuff), oil and refrigerent.
now today its blowing warm again, if i hook my kit up on the low side and try to add more it doesnt seem to want to take it. The gauge is reading 35psi(according to the gauge its in the full area), but then the compressor kicks in and it drops to 10psi, compressor only runs a couple seconds and shuts off, gauge goes back to 35psi. With the AC off the gauge is reading 35psi. While this is going on i am not getting any cold air.
My clutch doesnt have any read residue around it, i am not finding any of my red dye anywhere.
Tommorow i will re-check the pressure and see what its at.
any ideas guys? compressor the issue??
ac compressor problem?
you'd need a true set of 134a gauges to be certian, but if the compressor kicks on and low side pressure drops, then returns to its previous pressure when the compressor shuts off, more than likely its not the compressor. Also, those DIY kits aren't the best thing in the world. I would never use one unless a vacuum had been pulled on the system, but if you have the capability to pull a vacuum, you probably have access to 134a too LOL.
Borrow a set of gauges if you can and see what happens to the high side when the compressor kicks on.

35-40 should be the low side pressure while running not static. Static should be more like 70-100.
Get it serviced and UV dye added and checked for leaks. Need a Vacuum pulled on the system to get the moisture and what not out. Also if the charge if off much you get crappy performance. So over under it still is a problem.
Best of luck.

looks like i am going to be taking her in to get this done....as soon as i get my new problem fixed....somehow my rad brackets got loose so a hose that was close by(going to an external tranny cooler mounted to the rad) rubbed a hole in the rad.....lucky me.
but this car will be going in to see where the problem is, i hooked another cheap can of ac to the car and immediatley the compressor kicked on and i had really cold air in the car....but...two days later...all refridgerent is gone, so there is a good leak somewhere, now its just time to find it and go from there.
