Wheel project for a friend

Post by lambostealth » Wed Jun 11, 2008 12:33 am

I just painted them like he wanted...........he prepped them himself.

Not bad for rattle cans in the backyard......

Luckily, all that dust is from AFTER they had dried.......they look perfect when clean.

This new clearcoat in a rattle can really is a godsend!

Fucking awesome job! Came out excellent. I want to do this to my R/T wheels... what was your process? But he shoulda spent the money on getting his front bumper redone instead though.

Besides the wheels and upcoming suspension, he is leaving it the way it sits in preparation for the SRT swap.

He wants it to be able to handle well, but remain as close to sleeper as possible.

The primer was just a black filler/sealer primer, the basecoat was PX8 Dodge black put into a rattle can, and the clear (kicks ASSS!!!), was a two part clear you can only get from auto paint suppliers, it is called spraymax, the part number is 3680061, it has a button on the bottom of it that you press to release the hardner inside the can, then shake the crap out of it, and it sprays IDENTICAL to my HVLP spray gun........awesome stuff for small jobs, door jambs, touch ups, etc.

The wheels were sanded down with 400, then smoothed with 600, then primered with two coats, then sprayed about fifteen minutes later with the basecoat, then a second coat of base. Then about a half hour later, I had my buddy put the red tape on the lips, then I immediately sprayed two coats of clear on them.

I sell that clear that you use. And it is indeed awsome. Easily the best rattle can clear you can buy right now.

Great job on the wheels. They look great. Don't like the taped stripe but meh. Flows with the car.

That's how I plan on doing my wheels soon, except with a blue lip instead of the red.

Those turned out excellent for a backyard spray can job. I'll have to look into that clear, that would be a lot easier than lugging all my wheels into the paintbooth and mixing clear and dirtying my gun!

Awesome job!!! I've used that clear, it does kick ass but its $20+ dollar price tag and the need to use it in 24 hours or its toast sways me towards the UPOL Clear No. 1 more often than not. If I had a need for the whole can at one time I'd definitely buy it again.

Show him this...he'll get the new suspension parts RIGHT NOW when he sees this :)

Honestly, it's a lil too low for my taste, but I just did a real quick job. Gives him an idea! I think he should find an R/T front bumper BADLY!

I second that. I've been wanting to do the same exact paint scheme on my Koseis but I'm afraid of doing the red pinstripe.

Probably H&R's/Tokicos

He browses on here every once in awhile, but cars aren't on the top of his priority list.

Question: If I buy a can of this spraymax clear, about how much can I anticipate to have left after spraying 1 coat on (4) 15" wheels? lol...
