Battery problems

Since i installed my neons about a week ago, ive been having problems with my battery keeping a charge, so i disconected the neons from the battery...and it still refuses to stay charged :banghead: Maybe time for a a new battery, or even an alternator. Btw, my battery controls my subs, as well as my neons. So all in all im not that surprised that it quit on me, its quite a load to handle both of em. But yeah, what do you recomend i need? A new battery, or alternator? Maybe even both...? :banghead:

Make sure everything is wired properly. Check the little shit first.

sxt03: hate to burst your bubble... neon's arent going to drain your battery very much when the car is off, and not at all if the car's running...

Now if you're using them a lot when the car is off, including your stereo...yeah that i can understand.

If that's the case, you need to upgrade to an optima battery or other deep cycle battery. Standard lead-acid batteries aren't meant to be discharged and recharged constantly, more they're just supposed to stay relatively charged their whole lives.

when the car is on your system and your neons DONT run off the battery they run off the alternator.

check the voltage (at the battery) when the car is on it should be above 13.4v @ 2k RPM if not take these steps

while the car is on disconnect the battery and check the voltage again at the terminals (not the battery terminals... the cable terminals) if the voltage went up then you need a new batt

if the voltage dosent change check the tention of the belt, if its tight you need a new alt, i HIGHLY recomend when you buy a replacement say your neon was made after may of 05 these neons had a 120A alternator versus a 80/90A


if it is above 13v then your charging system is running properly and your battery has to best tested and maybe replaced, a good battery when the car is off should hold a 12.1-12.5v charge

me thinks me needs to buy new alt to support stereo, lol

well thats the thing. Its doing JUST that. Ill drive with them on for about 30 minnutes or so, with the system on and then ill park it for about 2 or so hours while im in a movie. Ill go out to the car, and it refuses to start, and it just started doing this when i installed the neons a few days ago. I ran the neons straight to the possitive on the battery, and grounded it to the body of the car. While my system is ran to the fuse box. (if i were the one who had installed it, i would have ran it straight to the battery, but the guy ran it to the fuse box for whatever reason) Im preety stumped about this...

what, no switch???

sounds like your battery just isnt holding a charge anymore...it would take a lot of neon tubes to drain your battery THAT fast

dude if i read this correctly, your neons are running 24/7, that and your car is an electrical nightmare


otherwise 2 things can cause this,

1) :withstupid: your battery isnt holding a charge

2) or your alt just dosent have the strength to charge the battery

3) or both 1 and 2 (very unlikely but if its 2 and you run a car long enough it will ruin a battery)

Yeah, I've had bad experiences with installs in the past as well. If you want something done right and proper, ya gotta get your hands dirty. Another thing to check is for shorts in your new wiring. Did you stay clear of any sharp metal edges that can cut through wire insulation?

Thats exactly how it appears. What im thining is that i screwed up during installation. Tomorrow im going to take the neons off, go over them really good for any mistakes, then ima put them back on and hopefully that will fix it. Ill be sure to keep yall informed.

i'd change that battery. if you have testers, test it or swing by your local advance and have them test your charging components.
