Driver side front window cost

Post by crowd00control » Sat Jun 14, 2008 1:59 pm

Anyone have any rough estimates on how much it would cost to replace this? Someone drove by and broke into my car, stole my useless radar detector, shattering my window in the process. I think i'm going to use the insurance money that I got from some taxi driver swiping my rear quarter panel to fix my broken window instead of fixing the rear quarter panel.

Also, is it easy enough to clean out the glass inside the door and replace the new window myself? or better off left to the pro's?

Well, the part # is 5115681AA...MSRP is $169.00

As to the labor, it will depend on the shop. I haven't tried to replace one myself, so I can't speak to the difficulty of the job. And to get the glass out, a shop vac is your friend :D
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

any 2000-2005 neon will work for used glass from the bone yard

replacing a window isnt fun, but very do able. remove the idoor panel so you have acces to everything, and i'd also remove the trim on the outside and mirror that way you have wiglle room (heck, may even have to wether you want to or not.

make sure that you vacuum everywhere on the inside 1st, the take off the door panel and vacuum in the door cavity. from that point its a mater of unbolting the old glass, wiggling it out and slipping the new glass in...prolly take you a solid afternoon start to finish.

front windows are a cake walk to replace

1. remove door panel
2. cut slit in plastic where the big hole in the door is
3. lower window until the bottom white piece is visible(this has 2 bolts in it)
4. remove 2 bolts
5. remove any leftover broken glass

installation:

1. put front edge of glass through seal with glass tilted forward(towards front end)
2. lower glass still tilted forward until the glass is about 3/4 of the way down in
3. rotate glass back to level, the glass should go right into the tracks
4. lift/lower glass until it's aligned with the bottom mount where you removed the bolts
5. bolt glass in
6. reinstall door panel

the replacement glass will need to have the plastic bolt clips. you can use the ones from the broken window if the replacement does not have them. these are required for the bolts.

it doesnt SOUND easy, but trust me, i can remove a front window in about 2 minutes flat

oh, and you'll need an 8mm socket for the bolts...

Yeah its real easy to do, maybe about 2 hours max with some stops and stuff but the hardest part will be getting the window into the black stripping on the door (if its as hard to get in as it was to take it out. If you were closer i actually have all 4 windows out of my old car before i junked it, i only want like $40 a window but i dont know about shipping a window it could get broken
