Help My car is Haunted!

Post by Exaran » Tue Jun 17, 2008 4:38 pm

My car's been dead for a few months after I blew the clutch out. Since my truck was taking up the workspace, I had to finish rebuilding it before I could start on the neon.

So this weekend I finally got it all back together with a new clutch and axels... I had a horrible time getting the air out of the clutch, and I'm still not sure it's working right, but it's drivable. (maybe it's just wierd cause I havent driven it in a while)

Anyway, it makes the drive home without issue (1.5 hours highway at night) but today when I drove it home for lunch it was making a "ding" every few minutes. The wierd thing was that no cluster lights were coming on. Then I turned down the radio and noticed the power locks were re-locking every 5-10 seconds and the dome light is fading on and off!!

:WTF:

Is my car an undead zombie since i let it sleep for so long?

I did finally see that the "door" indicator would sometimes flicker for a second... so I suspect the door latch switches. Now I just have to find out where they are....

this could be a battery issue, either corroded terminals or the battery is going south.

Mine did a funky light show when it died.

Are you sure all of your doors are closed? Mine did something like that, but the lights never flickered (because it's disconnected). Every time I stopped somewhere and then started again the chime would sound. Drove me nuts cause I couldn't see my cluster because my dashboard is out of the car, so all I saw was glare.

When my battery went it did something similar, but it would start to lurch and the gauges would start jumping all over the place. Sort of like the cars on 2F2F when they got shot with that three prong deal.

My Explorer locks will do this and my lights wont go off for a long time after the doors close.

Sounds to me like your Neon is having similar issues. Its something in the locking mechanism. At least it is in mine.

my car does that if I let my rpms get too low (almost stalling the car) My doors unlock and my dome light comes and then fades out. Its always done that. every since I bought new..
