Mopar lip kit (fustrations inside)
Okay so i pick up a blaze red lipkit for my car and i ask the dealer for a quote for install they give me "900 dollars give or take a little bit" so i proceed figuring okay the dealer is always high priced. after 2 other local body shops quoted me 600-750. I am a bit fustrated even if i had the 750 bucks i would not spend it having this kit mounted that i bought for 190 bucks.
ONTO THE QUESTIONS
How hard is this kit to mount you're self i have no body work experience anyone have pictures or a better tutorial then what came with it. what tools do i need? (i have 300 dollars set aside for this to be installed but i figure the tools i would have to buy will most likley be under that cost) and how long do you figure this would take me? i have mechanical experience (coilover install and all bolt on engine stuff ive done) any tips?

I tried to install mine myself, but I couldn't cut the cutouts smoothly and I had a helluva time trying to get my front bumper off. After a couple of hours of frustration, I ended up paying a shop $200 to do it. Before settling for the shop that did it, my local dodge dealer quoted my at $252 for 4 hours labour.

I don't know much about these kits as I have never played with them. But getting the front bumper off isn't all that hard. Figuring out where all the bolts are is the worse part. But just take your time. And keep going at it. I can get a front bumper off in like 10 mins now max.

whoaaa dude its not hard at all.. this was one of the first mods i ever did to my car before i knew anything about anything. the hardest part for me was getting the bumper off... wish you lived close to me id charge you 75 bucks and call it a day. if that. maybe 50 and a 6 pack. just do it yourself man. take your time. its easy.

Installing lipkit is absolutely easy. My daughter could do...
Just look in the manual.
Remove bumper (just LESS THEN 10 screws), drill holes (the postitions are marked with X), screw the lip on the bumper and the bumper to the car. Finished. Not more then fu**ing 20 minutes / bumper if you have a coffeebreak in between.


The sideskirts are also easy.
Look in the manual where to drill the holes.
Another 20 minutes / side.
But hey - for 800 bucks i would be more than HAPPY to install it to your car. Easy money. (Damned Germany is too far away)

The kit is not that hard to put on. Follow the directions step by step...
The most time consuming part of the install is taking off the bumpers. The front has about 12 bolts/screws to remove. The hardest ones are where the bumper and fender meet. You'll have to pull back the wheel liner, and get a nice long extension and shove it up there to get to one of the bolts. Its not that hard, once you figure out how to do this, you will be able to remove the front bumper in 15-20 minutes
The rear bumper is the same process, just need a way to get to the bolts where the bumper and fender attach.
As for actually install the lip. Your bumper will have X's in the spots of where you should drill. Before you drill, hold up the lip to the bumper just to make sure though. Drill the hole with correct size bit, install the hardware, push it through the bumper...
Here are two biggest tips: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS. I did this the rear bumper kind of deformed. No major damage, I just backed off the bolt a little.
Second thing. The preapplied tape on the lip. Get the lip kit on the bumper as close as you can. Keep the tape on at this point, but make sure you lift up a little edge on every peice of tape. Make sure you clean the bumper surface with some alcohol prep wipes. When the lip and bumper are almost touching, start to peel the tape and tighten up the bolts so you get the best fit. I used clamps every couple of inches after I install the lip so the tape would stick every where...

It's super easy. Get the bumpers off and find the little X's molded in the bumper drill them out with a 5/16. Screw the short end of the fastener into the lip put the long end through the holes you just drilled and put the nuts on snug. Check fitment and take it all back appart now is the time for paint ect. Pull some of the backing off the mounting tape and then line up the holes and put the nuts on a little loose. Pull the rest of the backing off and hold the lip to the bumper firmly while a helper tightns the nuts in the area that you just taped. Let them sit for an hour or 2 and then put the bumpers back on the car.
The hardest part by a long way is removing the bumpers and frankly that isnt that hard. The only semi specialist tool you need is about 20"-24" of extensions to get the last bolt on the back. If you have little hands and are good at finger yoga you dont even need them
