2000 Neon ATX ECU PCM doubt
2000 Neon ATX ECU PCM doubt
Hi guys, a friend of mine needs to changes his PCM, his car is a 00 neon atx, he's asking me that if he buys a new ecu at dealer does he needs to take his car to dealer to make it work? or the ecu should come flashed with vin and all data in it to make it plug&play with car?
I'm asking this because car isn't at city, it's in a ranch like 100miles away from dealer.
thanks for any input.

If your friend has the fat grey key, then it will need to be flashed.
If it is the black key then it won't.
I can't remember if sentry key (fat grey key) was an option in 2000.

It would depend if the dealer he is ordering it from has the ability to flash the SKIM code into the PCM without the car there. Talk to the service department to make sure they can program it without the car.
Another option is to disconnect the SKIM module (the part that has the ring around the ignition cylinder) before plugging the PCM in. If the SKIM is left plugged in, the new PCM will look for a code that isn't there. If the module isn't connected, the PCM won't know the car has it and won't require it.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Thanks, Dante, i'll tell it to him and let you know guys what happened, i guess he'll be buy the new ECU and try to skip the flashing from dealer, dealer told him he needs to take car to them $$$
