Lucas Oil

Post by yankeesking » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:06 am

Sorry, it's not about Star Wars.

I was thinking about getting Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer for my 00 Neon. The oil is leaking, and I was told Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer can fix it.

Other than leak, it helps improve mpg.

Anyone uses it? What kind oil should I use to mix with Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer? I don't trust myself yet on what choice I make without hear any results from 2gn.org fellows.

There's some topic around here that says you shouldn't use oil additives, and to just fix your leak as it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. I'd follow that advice. Wait till Racer12306 wakes up, he'll know.

I did a quick bit of research and sealing leaks is not one of the selling points. I know their power steering product is designed to slow/stop leaks in the power steering system.

Were is your engine leaking? How much oil is it leaking per oil change, and what is your oil change interval?

Motor oils today are very good. There is no need for additives. Chrysler advises against additives, but most will not hurt an engine when used correctly.

Personally, I wouldn't use it. I have used the non-synthetic stabilizer a long time ago. But that was before I learned anything about oil. I wouldn't use it again because I believe additives aren't necessary.

I have an additive story...

Many years ago my dad used to use dump a can of Bardahl #1 in with every oil change. This was being dumped into a Mopar 440 engine.

When I got my own vehicles I started doing that too... but one winter I went to dump the Bardahl #1 and found it thicker than molasses. I could hold the can upside down and it was still not going to pour.

I never used it again. Up in northern Canada we don't need the oil to be thicker thus making those cold morning startups all that much harder.

I work in a parts store, and I see so many people swear by this stuff...... but then I see a lot of air headed people come in asking for their money back when it doesn't fix leaks or stop ticks. that's just my two cents......

honestly, :withstupid: , It's better in the long run to just replace an oil pan gasket, or rent a pulley puller and change the crank seal, or w/e it takes to get the leak stopped.

Let you know, I didn't buy it. Today, on 30th. I went to car shop for inspections. I bump into buddy who I knew when we played little league baseball, so I asked him about oil leaking. He looked under and told me the bolt next to oil can was loose so he made it tight. It stopped leaking. He told me I was lucky to inform him because it could cause damage!
