MTX Swap Underway: Need A Few Questions Answered PLEASE!

Post by bdmski » Mon Jun 30, 2008 3:58 am

Well my torque converter just went out, and I decided to minus well swap to MTX when I have to spend at least 800 to fix the ATX anyway. I have a 2003 SE ATX. I'm hoping to get my hands on an R/T trans.

1. Is my parts list complete to the "T"?

2. Any advice or things to watch out for?

3. Will my car not work properly if I don't flash the new PCM? Or is it plug and play? Will it matter if my donor pcm is skim or not, if I don't have skim on mine?

Shifter Assembly
Shift Cables
Pedal Assembly
MTX Computer (2003-2005)
Passenger Axle
Clutch Master Cylinder
Slave Cylinder
Transmission/bell housing/clutch
MTX Trans mount

Thank you everyone, and wish me luck! I just hope it doesn't end up costing me too much. :banghead:

Other than the shifter cable mount to the tranny and the clips to hold the cables in place & the clip and screw for the clutch pedal to slave master cylinder, I think your good!

Is the cable mount your talking about the silver thing in this picture? Does anyone know the part number for it?

Image

I read in another thread that there are a total of 4 clips.

4269830 - at the trani - $2.70msrp each 2 needed
6501326 - at the shifter - $1.85msrp each 2 needed

So there is a 5th clip at the clutch pedal? Do you have the part number for that too with the screw?

What an ass! I just called up some shop to see how much they would charge me for this. He went off saying it will never run right, that you have to alter your engine wiring, then hung up on me. Found someone that will do it for 800-1000, waiting on one more quote.

swap

Post by sxbs » Mon Jun 30, 2008 10:28 pm

i have done this swap, its easy once you get started, the guy that said it will never run is obviously lying because its my daily driver. what price quote are you talking about? i did this entire swap in two weekends for the price of parts. i took my time to do it right and havent had any problems yet, the PCM has been the only hurdle so far because i havent found anyone close by to me that has one and can burn it with my VIN aside from the local dealer... and they dont want to touch it for some strange reason. anything dont hesitate to ask, glad to help. Good Luck!!!

Whats wrong with your pcm? I bought one today, the same year as mine (mtx). Am I going to have to get it flashed or something? [-o< I thought it was plug and play? Mine arrives on Friday. Is it because you have skim or something? Mine will be plug and play since I do not have skim right? :sad7:

Wow an '03 with no skim?! Your key is black, not grey? If there is no SKIM then possibly you are good to go provided the one you bought also doesn't have skim. If it does it's a paperweight. :(
I have swapped PCM's w/out getting the VIN flashed on an '01, but not sure about NGC.

I guess I do then, cause I do have a grey key. I went to the dealer today and they said they would flash it for $110 with my vin. Thank you guys for informing about getting the mtx pcm flashed, because my car would have never started on install day.

Does anyone know where the hell that long silver piece goes in the picture I posted above?

the silver clip is for your brake pedal. The other two are for the shifter cable. The gold nuts are for the shifter mount. The other flanged black nuts are for the pedal assembly. I dont recall what the bolt is for could be for the shifter cable mount to the floor, since four of the bolts go up from the bottom and one down from the top.

I just got my transmission today. I was wondering if I'll need any parts in between the transmission housing and the clutch? Don't I need a flex plate? Is there anything else I will need? Can I use the ATX flex plate?

I also got my mtx computer today, I took it to the dealer and they told me I would have to buy a new one to put a new vin in. Then one of the workers that had an SRT-4 said that he might be able to do it for me. So we'll have to see.

They can flash it! they usually dont for gauage clusters though.

You should be able to use the ATX flex plate (the standard neon ATX & MTX flexpplates should be the same, I know the SRT-4 is larger) if your going with the modular clutch not really sure about the cable clutch.

Does anyone know where that long metal piece with the four holes in it goes from the picture above?

Also, the same 4 bolts that bolt to the torque converter will blot up to my clutch right?

Have no clue on the plate, but I would just get new flywheel bolts from the dealer for cheap insurance.

So my swap has come to a grinding halt after it was discovered that I am missing a part. Turns out I need a slave cylinder bracket. Listed as number two in the picture.

I wish someone would have warned me. :cussing:

It's far more complicated to swap to a hydro setup, is all i was pointing out, many reasons aside from all the extra parts needed for hydraulic, and not cable operated clutch.

BDMSKI- Ask BlackRoseRacing if he can get you a part number for that part.. he is your best bet in this neck of the woods for anything like that.

The swap is done now, but I have a new set of problems. The car drives fine without a rev limiter for a few minutes, but then one kicks in, even with the new mtx pcm flashed and installed. I posted a new thread on that. :banghead:
