New system... MUST be done for carlisle...

Post by NiteHawk » Sat Jul 05, 2008 2:05 pm

I started out with a flat base made of MDF for the box to sit on. After putting the spare tire(srt) back in under the base, i noticed the base was actually sitting on the spare and not the trunk floor. So, I put a layer of 3/4" MDF along the outside edges to lift the base up some.

Image

Image

Once I had that done, I then put a similar layer on top to hold the box in place. Only 3 sides were required because the box wont slide forward more than 1/4" before hitting the big metal bulge of the rear deck.

Image

Image

Here you can see how the box sits in it. I left space on either side to account for the carpet that will be on the box and on the base.

Next comes the amprack. I decided to mount this on top of the box because of my altered trunk light setup. It creates a nice effect at night.

Image

The amprack wont be a perminant fixture on the box, and will have basically a "false" back to the box, covering up the backside of the box and giving me a place to mount my fuse block, ground distrobution block, and my 3-way crossover(this one is currently on the rear passanger floor). The bar on the bottom of the amprack will provide a "stop" point for when its installed so that it wont slide forward and will always be in the same location.

See?

That's it for now, i have to get ready for work...

Looking good! What color carpet are you going with? Light grey? Dark grey? Something silver to match the lip kit?

I hope you don't get a flat, because you'll have to take out your system to change a tire.

Install switch operated system that lifts and lowers the box for you allowing access to the spare tire.

Ok, an update as promised...

This is all the space I'll have between the box and amprack...GOOD THING MY POWER WIRE IS SUPER SUPER FLEXIBLE!

Image

I'de like to take a moment to thank my father, my favorite helper. He's put up with so much shit over the years, God bless him!

Image

Here's the crossover, fuse block, and ground block mounted to the amprack, you can also see the side covers.

Image

Here's what itll all look like when its done...just imagine some gray 4G wire, rca's, and black carpet :)

Image

Oh yeah...its now ready for carpeting :)

Looks good. Too bad you have them facing the wrong way and they would be louder adn cleaner facing the trunk.

Technically, it's Tuesday here, so this is a new update for a new day, hah

Ran the new speaker wires for the front. the Red/Black pairs you see are the old wires that are currently running into the doors. The new wires will be integrated into the factory wiring via pins and sockets in the factory plugs. For now though just to get the job done, I'm going to just connect them to the old wiring for the time being...
