Oil leak in spark plug sleeves

Post by Flying_NEB » Sat Jul 05, 2008 11:11 pm

Hey guys. Need some help. I'm trying to decide if I NEED a new head or if I can do a cheaper fix. My #2 plug sleeve (the metal sheath the plug goes in) has leaked since I got the car. I put new valve cover seals/grommets in and that helped, but it's still leaking somewhere else. Also, my number 4 has a small leak too I think. Do I need to replace the whole head? I looked at some but I don't see these metal sleeves on them. can I get these parts separately and save some head gasket money?

this happened to me a few months ago and mine was leaking bad. i didnt have any money at the time so what i did was i got a socket that fit over the sleeve and lightly taped it back down and incredibly to me it hasnt leaked since. im not sure if we have the same problem cause my sleeve was sticking out a lil bit but that wat i did.

Yeah they say use some loctite at the base and then hammer it back in.

I had this problem with mine when I purchased it last summer.

Three of the spark plug tubes were raised up. I used the socket & hammer to gently hammer them all back into place.

Since that all of them have stayed in place except for #1 cylinder which keeps rising up slowly. Every once in a while I need to tap it back down otherwise at some point it will start to let a little oil in around the base of the plug.
