Kirk LTH or Custom made LTH?

Have a question about how to make horsepower going the all motor route, here's where to ask it.

Kirk LTH or Custom made LTH?

Post by BillyMike » Sun Jul 13, 2008 6:51 pm

As of now I have a kirk LTH on my 03R/T but I keep seeing post that say the kirk primarys are to small! So what size should they be and how long should they be for best performance drag raceing? Im in south Cali for the time being and have found several places that build custom headers for what ever you want.
Any info would be great.
BTY I cant spell :)

I would try and find a used header like an afx, or fast fabs, and have a merge collector welded on. It would most likely be cheaper than having one custom made.

I say go custom that they if the shop rely knows there stuff they will be able to make it so that its right for your car. Thats one of the biggest things I hate about mass produced headers. What if my setup is differant then the one the header was designed for. NASCAR drivers tune the rpm range on there cars just by changing the headers.

Oh, yea yes the Kirk is a POS. I have nothing good to say about it. Not realy sure what there goal was when they designed the thing but its a compleat wast of money. Preety much anything would be better.

I'd go with the OBX stainless header and modify it.

You going to be running the Crane 14 cam in your sig? Stock R/T intake manifold? Stock valves? These are the key componets to figuaring out size and length of the header.

Modify how??? The ports and header wont line up correct if i remember.
I dont know much about size and length depending on airflow. I am also planning on getting a manifold from All Motor Mike some time soon. I am building for a faster 1/4 mile time.

The OBX LTH was a nice piece. AMM did a head for me ported to the Magnum head spec's and it bolted up fine. I don't know if the Magnum head bolt pattern is different though.

All SOHC heads have the same intake and exhaust bolt patterns, just the exhaust ports are larger on the Magnums.

Dang thats cold. Killeen is a little different because of the Army being here. But for a small area there is a lot of great cars and a all right street scene for all types of cars and trucks. But because im in the Marine Corps im in South Cali for a little while and the scene out here is alot different.

Exactly, for a proper setup you don't just throw on a "Performance" header and assume its going to work. If you have a stock setup, its designed to peak power under 6500rpm so a long tube header is just going to push your power band upto that 6500 point or possibly higher. There are ways to figure out the proper sized header for any given applications.....
