A little update: Battle with NYS Inspection is over, my car is officially legal in NYS and I shouldn't have anymore problems in the future when inspection time comes. Parts are still trickling in and i am working on buying a winter beater so I can get going on fixing the head gasket. Stay tuned for new pictures soon
It's been a while since I have posted an update, and even longer since the last pictures... I got a winter beater a couple of months ago and the neon has been parked since, as of right now the head is ready to come off then it will be getting the new DCR 5 layer head gasket, DCR head studs, Gates timing belt, and possibly a DCR water pump. While I am in the top end i am looking at getting some 2.7L rockers and some mild cams to match the Fidanza gears I already have. I made a decision on the turbo setup, it will be a S3D from AGP, either 48 or 55 with either an SCT or Diablo Sport tuning it. My new Tial Sport Q BOV and matching 38mm WGA showed up yesterday (both in red) as well as my OT-1/LC-1 Wideband and Datalogging setup from innovate. The intercooler is going to get some custom work so I can fit it behind an '02 bumper the way I want it to, and It will be backed up by custom hardpipes from a local shop. I am going to try to get some pictures up tonight, there isnt a ton of work going on right now though things are really busy and its an uncomfortable 29 degrees in my apartments garage. Stay tuned for more parts and progress!
Today's Progress
Still waiting on parts but I got everything ordered and everything is cleaned up and ready to go back together. Now for the dilemma... CAMS! I ordered a set of Crane 16's with springs because I got a deal that was too good to pass up. Now I think they are too big for my application. I do not have a ported head, bigger valves, nor intake, nor exhaust, I am not running a huge turbo (AGP S3D 55 at the largest) so do I run the 16's or trade em for 14's. The only reason I can think of to keep the 16's would be if I don't meet my HP goals with a stock head this year, if that happened I would be getting ported parts next year and I would prob want the bigger cams. So please chime in, and if you have a BRAND NEW set of 14's I might be interested in trading. Now onto the pics:

All Cleaned up with Studs in:

Head all cleaned up ready to go back on:

New TKMS 5 Layer HG waiting for the head to be mounted...

The head is on the car now but not torqued back down, no sense in clamping it down until I'm sure I'm not going to be using the 16's which would require using new springs. New updates to follow

Little update for me...
I'll still be coming to carlisle this year but unfortunately I won't be showing anything. I am going to be buying a house this summer so all income is frozen until further notice, I need about 2500 min. to finish putting the car together and I am just not willing to spend it until I close on a house. The car will be ready next year as I will actually have a garage I can work in and money to finish it. I don't know how much I'll be on the forums until I get everything wrapped up buying a house but I won't give up carlisle so I'll see you all down there

Update or ban!
Update or ban! Lol jk. Car looks awesome. You know those are the first pictures ive seen of the car since I saw it back at your moms place. That was a long time ago. I wish I could be around to lend a hand with the build. Or take some parts off your hands to help with funds. Take a look at the new car in the project logs.
Update!
Cranes are in (14's)
DCR Timing belt tensioner is on
New Idler pulley is on
New Inside timing cover is on
DCR Cam Alignment tool showed up today
Waiting for Boomba to get me my new cam gears then it will get put back together. They are on back order because they had some make a fresh batch, they should still be hot off the CNC by the time I get them
So what is holding me up? Transmission in the POS DD saab decided to eat a bearing. I have to get another transmission and put it back on the road.
Going to get pre approved for a mortgage on monday so all my money is going towards that instead of a new turbo to finish up the car. I might sell the saab once it is fixed to fund the new turbo. I will try to get some updates as soon as the cam gears show up.

I got the head bolted on last week and checked compression after I heard a strange hiss while doing the timing. Long story short the car is back apart, the machine shop has the head and it is warped .009... It would be $500+ just to fix it... looks like it's going to be a new race ported head for me...

Yeah it's definately bitter sweet, I have thought a lot about doing the head while I had it all apart but it was too much money, I guess now I don't have a choice in the matter. All this means is that it is going to take longer. Def. dont expect to see my car running before next spring. I think we did find a house we are going to put an offer on though, and its got a decent size 2 car garage that I would insulate and heat this winter so I could actually get something done.chosenone2386 wrote:Sweet! Also not so sweet. If I go to Carlisle ill let you drive my mini beast! I know it wont be anywhere near the experience of driving your car.
1985 Dodge Omni GLH
Finally talked the original owners out of this one, its been in the garage for 17 years... It really does have 25,480 miles, all original except for the fluids
Should have it at my new house by the end of the summer and it will be gone through really well and maybe taken out before the weather gets bad.

God your a lucky son of a bitch! A birdy told me you were probably going to be picking that up. That thing is so clean.
Going to pick up the sensors tonight. I wont be able to install them till tomorrow though. Its been raining on and off all day and were supposed to get thunder storms in a lil bit.
Congrats again on the house!

Hey, good to see you on here! I never saw this progress thread...sorry for overlooking you. You have one of the cleanest SRT-swapped Neons I've ever seen! Glad I got to see it in person last year. The car is beautiful and well taken care of. I'm not going to Carlisle this year, so when I come next year, I hope to see ya there!

Thanks! That's alright it's pretty easy to over look as slow going as it is and I haven't had many pictures lately. I appreciate the compliments I try to keep it as clean as possible. It's getting a lot of work done in the coming year now that I finally have a place and some spare cash to do it. I will be down at carlisle this year but my car won't so you won't miss anything!supertrick_05 wrote:Hey, good to see you on here! I never saw this progress thread...sorry for overlooking you. I'm back.
As some of you know I bought a house this summer, I have been super slammed doing renovations but I have about another month until they are done for a while... I have been sneaking some work in on the garage making room for the neon this winter. I'll get some house pics up soon, here are some of the garage and I will get a before picture and a completely finished picture up soon! Work on the neon will commence around the beginning of 2010
