Looking at 05 SX 2.0 need info please
Hey guys im looking at getting a 2005 SX 2.0 MTX. Its pritty much base...no A/C no power options only fogs. It only has 45.000Km on it wich is still pritty dam new. I am looking for info on mods, ones that will not need MAJOR tear down of the engine. Im looking to get some kinda kick out of this car but no ultra fast as i have a child on the way and my wife says NO! to fast cars.
So basically any info on upgrades for this car would be greatly appreciated.
i am also looking into hooking up power windows n locks...n e one know a site that sells a kit?
P.S im also the proud owner of a 1gn neon on the neons.org site.

I guess with a child OTW a loud muffler is out. A 1gn DOHC muffler will help a little with the exhaust. A drop in K & N air filter may net a small amount of power, but there really isn't a lot that can be added with out breaking the bank for engine mods, and from what I have read here, the '05 PCM is extra picky.
Some Booger bushings for the shifter will help take the play out, possibly a short throw.
I would suggest some suspension mods, but mother and baby may not like the ride. If it doesn't have a rear sway you could add one, that should help make the car a little safer. You may need to add some mounting brakets to the rear struts, as outlined in the how-to section. Some used SRT sways may not stiffen the ride too much with stock springs, but would help the handling.
BTW there is also a sister forum, 1gn.org

Very good info here. Intresting that the 05 PCm isnt good for upgrades. I heard howell is making one that will be upgraded...this true? Also im pritty shud a 2.5 free flow exauhst setup woudnt hurt along with a long tube header. So basically there aint much to do for bolt ons to this car due to the PCM?
How about a cold air intake? I see alot on ebay but r they just cheap rip-offs turned warm air? I 2nd the make it fun plan also...i plan on putting some subs in but i will be hooking the switch wire up to a toggle so i will be able to turn the subs on n off when baby isnt on board.
Will adding a free flow exauhst and long tube header do anything good for Hp gains? Or will the PCM not allow it? How about a underdrive pully? Im guessing since this car dosnt have A/C its gonna be hard to find a pully for it. Also was looking on moderns site...any comments on the indy intake and 60mm TB? One more thing is the pacesetter exauhst for the 2gn subject to rusting like the 2gn neons pacesetter?

no one knows whats up with howell lol. but basicly there are very very little gains netted from mods the first 50-100 miles of a mod you will notice it but once the computer "figures" it out it doesnt like it.it wont hurt to mod it but you wont see as big of a gain.bluestreak95 wrote:Very good info here. 55 mm seems to be the limit for TB's on the NGC. An Indy is overkill for a mildly modded engine. You should see gains from an upgraded exhaust, but in addition to the PCM, the compression ratio is 9.3 compared to 9.8 for the 95-2001 engines. That is prolly the biggest factor in lost power for bolt ons. a UDP should work fine; the pully groove for the A/C just wont be used. there are a few threads on NGC, read through them for more info. Or just search "NGC", and ask questions/post in those threads. No sense having another thread.
Edit: I believe all model year R/T's have 9.8:1

Be very careful with power windows and kids.bluestreak95 wrote:i am also looking into hooking up power windows n locks...n e one know a site that sells a kit?
Some of them can trap a kid by the neck choking off the airway unless they have an autoreverse when the least little bit of pressure is detected.
No power windows in mine and currently the AC is out so I just roll down the driver window and lean over to roll down the passenger one.
Besides, power windows will add weight and thus decrease the fun factor by a smidgen.
I am a surviver of electric windows.

The 05 PCMs for SRT4s are extra picky. The 05 PCMs for SEs and SXTs are just as picky as 03 and 04, I think.
Also, I have no idea what the 1st Gen R/Ts were like, but all 2000+ R/Ts have the 9.8:1 compression ratio.
I'd say get a cam, but the cams for the stock motor just don't seem to do a lot, unless you get a standalone computer and can rev your shit to 7500. Or at least that's what it seems. There's a few topics about the Crane 12 in the engine section that might be worth looking at. Not quite sure if installing a cam is tearing apart your engine too much, though.

+1 on the PCM/ECU.
Since it will be hard for you to feel gains from the engine with bolt ons, do an SRT swap, or put a turbo on the stock engine. It's up to you, but turbo/nitrous is the only way to put some serious power down.
Since you have a baby on the way, I would NOT do anything to the exhaust. My girlfriend hates how loud my car is.

Hmm, that's odd your '95 should have more power and weighs less. But then I don't know how many miles are on it, but a 18+ hp loss is pretty serious!

OK, first off no the 2000+ R/T's do not have higher compression. The block on all 1996-2002 SOHC engins are exaclty the same no changes where made tell the 03 year when they went NGC.Swordfish2Cowboy wrote: Also, I have no idea what the 1st Gen R/Ts were like, but all 2000+ R/Ts have the 9.8:1 compression ratio.
If your 95 DOHC feals slower then the 05 then there is something major wrong with your 95. There is no reason why a stock SOHC should ever feal faster then a 1ST Gen DOHC. Before I sold my 02 with a ported head comp 400 TTI header 2.5 exhaust and ghetto blaster my stock 96 ACR still felt faster.
If you want to go fast with out doing lots of work and want to add say only 50-60WHP look at a hahn stage one turbo kit. should put you in the 170-180WHP range. Nothing too drastic and if you left everything else stock it would be quite as stock but still be nice and fun.
