ac to the trunk?
ac to the trunk?
anyone have any thoughts on how to get some ac to run into the trunk relatively easily? the summer heat has already fried one of my amps and i am without subs until it gets back from warranty repair so i want to cool down the trunk. i can get some 80mm computer fans pretty cheaply but they would just move the hot air around more. i want to cool down the area.

thought about that but it's a little too ghetto for my tastes. besides, i would have to remember to put them back up each time and the extra bass from the trunk would make me have to retune the system.
there are some sort of openings near the tail lights tfor vents right? i wonder if i could rig up some sort of intake tub that would force air into the trunk when moving forward.

My friend has a Chevy Suburban, and it's got AC vents in the back. I think the air is just blown up between the top of the headliner and the bottom of the roof to random vents in the back. You could try something like that. I'm not sure where you'd want to stick a vent and worry about things getting inside. You're doing this to keep your system cool?
i think i read somewhere the vents in the trunk are for pressure release? dont know if that means jack really, just something i heard..
im in south florida and i keep my seat closed, and have the amp mounted to the back of it, and have never had one problem with it... even on the hottest day inside the car gets hot as shit sitting for awhile in the parking lot and my trunk never gets anywhere near hot.. hmmm
maybe you could make some vents in the back window ledge around the speakers?, routing ducts might get messy and look like shit since theres no way to make it look nice, nowhere to hide any ducting..

it was over 90 that day with high humidity, 2 layers of dynamat xtreme (converting vibrations to heat), my amps have a very large footprint and i run them quite high, car sat in the sun all day, no real air movement, i stubbed my toe, amp possibly was assembled wrong or had a defect, the gods hated me for a day, 3.5 hour drive with no sounds.....
anything could have caused it. i am just looking for a way to get some fresh air into the truck, ac or otherwise. i plan on using quite a few 80mm fans but i want something to mix it with, not just push around hot air.
ya, the pressure release thing is what is in the back of my mind but i am wondering where these vents are located (hopefully i did not cover them). they would still do their job of being an opening to the outside for pressure, but maybe i can rig up some sort of hose/mount/filter thing to force air into it.
the back deck isn't a bad idea at all. i could get some more fans and mount them easily blowing cool air into the trunk. thanks for the idea.

honestly, a couple fans will provide enough cooling, regardless of the temp of the trunk...
my only other suggestion, is get a new amplifier that has a thermal protection circuit so that you DONT blow it up cause of heat...

the amp supposedly has good thermal protection and neither i nor the rep of the company (who is s great guy) can figure out what went wrong. i sent it back to them today to have it checked out and repaired. between the 2 amps and the dynamat acting as insulation there is a chance that the heat did it in but i'll know more after they take a look at it.

i have 2 large amps with 0 trunk space in my trunk, car sat in the sun all weekend at carlisle, and i had no problems what so ever... i bumped the system very very hard on the way to TMI, and they never shut off or faded out

As to your question i'm not sure. The cooling system in the neon is stupid, the back seat area is always really hot even with the AC on. My passengers are always complaining and my shit is ice cold up front. I think the seats take a lot of the air

You could probably make some sort of ducting on the rear shelf. Just take out the insulation material and leave the outer carpeting and put a fan in each port to cool the trunk. Preferably one intake and one exhaust. That way no ones the wiser but you.

Maybe upgrade to a new amp with a cooling fan or two built into it. I have two amps, one of which has just a single 1" fan inside blowing on the mosfets, and that amp runs half the temperature as my other identical amp, with no fan inside. You may want to see what you can wire up for extra cooling.

turns out it wasn't the amp at all but rather the hu. they called me after running it for 6 hours straight on a bench and nothing. while driving my other amp started to act up so i did a little testing and found the hu was having problems with the rca connections. swapped in for my old one and all is fine.

After i installed my amp (on the back of the backseat) i realized it wasnt guna be getting any air under to cool the shit. so i got some bottle caps and use those as spacers. Idk if it really made a difference but the amp doesnt seem to get hot
