In Dash Deck ?

Post by Dimas » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:13 pm

Hey how's it going guys, I gotta ? for you.

I have an 03 RT, apline speakers type R in front and jus apline 6X9 in the back. w/ the stock deck and 6 disc cd changer.

I went into Best Buy the other day and asked if there were in dash decks out there tha I can replace the stock one with but still keep my 6 disc cd changer and dude told me no.

I honestly want jus a new deck that's bluetooth ready so that I can play the music from my phone it will save me money overall. but I also dont wanna lose the 6 disc cd changer in the RT is this possible to do?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 9494646121

I was looking at this and saw it something like.

"Auxiliary input allows for simple connection to additional sources, including an optional CD changer (requires KCA-121B adapter, not included); CD player not built into deck "

Is that what I'm looking for? [/url]

The hook-up that the aftermarket head unit uses wouldn't be compatible with the cable that the factory unit uses. There may be an adapter cable though...

Let me check...

OK, this is the Alpine adapter they list...

Image

It basically changes the plug on the back of the head unit to RCA.

Then there is this....

Image
This auxiliary input adapter from Precision Interface Electronics allows you to listen to a portable music player or just about any other external source through select Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep sound systems. The adapter includes an 18" harness that plugs into your factory radio, converting its satellite radio port into an auxiliary input. Warranty: 90 days.

The adapter has plugs to interface into your stock harness. If you were to plug your CD changer into the smaller plug and plug the Alpine RCAs into the adapter, it might just work.

I haven't tried this, so I can't say for sure. Anyone?
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Im surprised that no one else has started or whatever to try and fix this problem or develop somethin that would work.

but thanks for the advice, I may jus end up losing the damn 6 disc cd changer and do the whole bluetooth thing, dont' know if I wanna get a deck w/ a cd player or not.

I dont think the bluetooth feature allows you to play songs from your phone but i could be wrong. I say this because i never seen it done. And i say you mite aswell get a deck that still plays CDs. After hooking up my ipod i thought id never go back to a CD but ive done it and im happy my deck has it.

I was gonna say, if you can get a phone or I-pod to play yer music, why worry about a 6 disc changer?..for the few times you want to play a CD, the single CD player should surfice... even the above post, doesn't sound like he goes to the CD often enough to worry about having a changer.

EXTRA note...just got something from Verizon wireless today, pimping one of their new phones.. Chocolate 3...that will take an 8 gig card and has a built in FM transmitter in the phone so you can just tune yer car radio to a freg. and play all the songs on yer phone thru the car stereo. (you can also text while playng the music without interuption)

i searched all the old threads about the stock audio system looking for answers to my own questions, and not one post i read siad anything about finding an aftermarket hu to work with the stock cd changer.

that particular alpine hu you linked has a rear usb input, so you could buy (if you don't have one already) a usb stick and fill it with mp3 files and have all the music you want at your fingertips. no need for a cd changer.

to the best of my knowledge there is no hu that allows for streaming audio via bluetooth. the only connection they offer is for use of your cell as a phone, not a portable media player. there is a good chance someone in the world makes one but the costs would be pretty high.

When I get back, I'm going to attempt the bluetooth/cd deck w/ the crutchfield cable to still have the 6 disc cd changer. Hopefully it works lol.
