i remember what the issue i had was!

i had the same problem with my panasonic. turns out it was a cobalt thing, i had to snip the wire to the stock amp and run it to the aftermartket switch. maybe there's something funky like that with your buddies car?

the blue wire is hooked up to a blue wire coming out of the harness.. i matched up all the colors except for orange because there was only one orange wire coming from the stereo and 2 coming from the harness

ok the blue coming out of the chevy harness tie it into red. the orange on the alpine conect it to ONLY the solid orange on the chevy NOT the orange/white or orange/black otherwise youll fry the radio. i cant remember wether the chevy harness had a solid orange

the reason this is happening is because the amp-turn on for the factory amp is tied to the power antenna circuit (blue on the chevy harness) wether or not you actually have one dosent matter.

aftermarket radios drop power on the power antenna line when you pop in a cd that way the antenna goes down when a cd is in

ok well im not sure what happened last night as of right now the stereo works but last night when i put it in i did blow the fuse for his odometer lights.. thats ok right? just gotta grab a fuse. anyways thanks for the help i will give that a shot and see what happens. so blue goes into red and orange goes into orange. where does the blue wire from the stereo go? since the one from the harness goes into the reds

yea just change the fuse.. if that fuse didnt pop that radio would be dead lol

orange isnt required to get sound, its an illumination so the face dims when your lights are on.

solid blue just gets capped

the fuse that blew was for the dash lights, has nothing to do with the radio itself or the fuse on the radio.

you have to look though the car's fuses and find it, most likely its a 10A which is red

i know that what i am saying is the wires could still possibly touch but as long as it keeps it off it should be ok till he comes over tonight and i can fix it. but where does the blue wire from the radio go? do i just leave it?

would you drop that whole "i'm holy-er than thou" install shit already? we had this conversation already. I'm just telling the guy my experience.

not like there was much to it. snip a wire, hook up snipped wire to blue wire, done. that's SO much isn't it?

no as long as the car is on theres current going though those wires wether or not the radio is on.

blue out of the radio just dosent connect to anything... cap it

dude idk what your problem is, but there was nothing behind that, just that you didnt have to go though that, you didnt have to run wire, you just had to brige the power antenna line to the accessory line at the harness. that problem with the CD player is a very common thing with chevy and BMW because for some reason the love tieing the amp turn on line to the power antenna circuit.

i dont think that at all, ive made many mistakes in the past and after all my years and all the books i still make them from time to time. im really humble when it comes to that, am i strongly opioniated to how things have to be done... YES because i expect a ceartain amount of quality at my shop and by my installers and i want everyone to have the same quality. theres nothing worse than a install that bites you in the ass a few years later when you forgot what is what when you try to troubleshoot

orange is illumination
orange/white +dimmer
orange/black -dimmer

dont worry too much nothing really moves a whole lot back there once the radio is pushed in, if it was going to happen it would have happened already while the radio was going in

EDIT: OH YEAH, dose the camaro have the bose system, or is it the monsoon setup.

if its bose you have to get some RCA's and cut them and wire them into the speaker lines because the bose amp uses a low level input. but very few camaros had it, i dont even think that body style ever had it as an option, but im letting you know just incase... most likley its the monsoon setup. if not its a mid-level amplified system from GM/AC-Delco directly which is ok also as far as hi-level
