SRT Struts
SRT Struts
I want to put SRT wheels my 03 SXT SRT Clone, but I need to get the stock SRT Struts and springs to fit the 205/50/17 tires on the car. My question is can I still put regular 15in rims with smaller tires on after the swap with no problem? Thank you

and just a little tid bit of information for you down the road...
if you ever decide you want to get aftermarket wheels...
17x7 wheels w/ 40 offset, you can fit 225/45r17's with the srt struts no questions asked, plenty of clearance and they're nice and beefy tires

you'll prbly want to get srt lowering springs instead of stock when you do this. otherwise your car will end up looking like a monster truck!
before i got koni's i had srt struts with 1.8 drop srt lowering springs and it didnt lower it very much at all.

-05 neon (dd/winter car)
-09 civic si (13.89 @ 101 mph bolt on's, tune and stock tires)

Just put in SRT struts in my 03 SXT. Got them with a set of Hotchkiss springs with 15/16th drop in front and 1 3/4 drop in rear. Puts the rear in a nice place front is about the same because perches on SRT struts are 3/4" higher than sxt. So effectively whatever your drop is reduce it by 3/4" and that will roughly be your "true drop". Don't forget, you cant go too low or you will bottom out like crazy.
chrisrunsi...
hotchkis springs are only made for SRT struts. the figures they give you are the actual drop figures.
putting hotchkis springs on a regular neon strut would drop the car an additional 3/4" on top of what they already provide.
your front will come down a little more over time once the springs settle.
just look at my sig...........

but if you are raising the car 3/4" from srt struts all around then dropping with springs you are effectively losing 3/4" from your drop... regardless of what car the springs go on the drop is the same from them. so if you have 3 inches of wheel gap now + 3/4 from struts (now 3 3/4) then drop and inch from springs (now 2 3/4) you are really only getting a 1/4 inch drop.
I don't think that the srt struts will raise your vehicle (and i could be wrong).. the perches are higher, but the overall length of the strut assembly is the same .......maybe the stance is a bit different since the srt spring/ strut combo are stiffer, but the actuall length of the strut (assembly) should be the same, while the suspension travel distance is shorter in the srt....
i know this has been covered a million times, but i think there could be a misconception here..................or am i wrong?

omg, dude, your not listening to me at all
hotchkis springs were designed for SRT4 STRUTS, NOT NEON STRUTS. the height of the spring perch has NOTHING to do with it!
clean out your ears and pay CLOSE attention!
Springs designed for the SRT4 put on a NON SRT4 strut will lower the car an additional 3/4". You're arguement about losing 3/4 of an inch is completely stupid and incorrect. If you put drop springs made for a REGULAR NEON on SRT4 struts, then YES, you will lose 3/4" of your drop because of the perch, BUT YOUR NOT.
Ride Height is higher on the SRT4, yes, because of the size of the tires, NOT the struts. Neon springs and SRT4 springs are NOT the same size, the NEON springs are LONGER and the SRT springs are SHORTER because of the 2 differant perches!
Stock neon tire, overall diameter: 24.46"
Stock SRT4 tire, overall diameter: 25.07"
god i hate it when people make stupid assumptions about suspension components....
lets look at your math here shall we?
3" wheel gap now...switch to stock srt struts and springs, you'll have the SAME RIDE HEIGHT. Why? BECAUSE THE STOCK SRT SPRINGS ARE SHORTER TO ACCOUNT FOR THE HIGHER PERCH!
So, lets now REDO your math...
3" gap + srt struts and springs = 3" gap
3" gap - 1" drop = 2" gap
please just stop now, dont try to argue anymore...
someone please back me up here, cause i doubt he'll just believe me, Dante, Chris, can one of yall please chime in!
whats next man, ebay coilovers ftw?

PM me for your 03+ PCM SKIM/VIN flashing needs. Neon PCMs Plus
Sorry, I totally missed this. NiteHawk is correct. The springs are shorter on the SRT to compensate for the higher perch. Only the tires are taller on the SRT. Imagine how high the SRT would sit if they used the same springs as a regular Neon

Oh, and I'm moving this where it belongs.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
