I'm Sorry Audry!!!!

Post by hansken_yo » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:57 am

Well, I think most of you know that I was in an accident on June 16th on my way home from work. It plays out like this:

There was an accident already on the side of the freeway and traffic was moving... hmmm how do I put it... slowly. Stop and go. I drive stick (the only way to drive), but in situations like this you tend to keep your distance and just try to keep the car in gear, especially when you've been in this stop and go traffic for the past 2 miles.

Anyway, the accident that had traffic slowed was on the right side of the freeway and for some reason (unknown to me) was on the left side... a 5 lane difference. I'm finally clearing the scene of this accident, I'm looking ahead and traffic is going back to freeway speeds, the person in front of me starts to accelerate. I follow suit.

Then out of the blue, right near the police officers, the person in front of me brakes for maybe 5 feet before the back end of their car lifts about 4inches off the ground. They just ran into the person in front of them... This was not a "oh damn i just needed 1 more foot of stopping distance.., " it was literally a good ol' ramming. Fuck the back end came off the ground.

Anyway, as I said, I was accelerating like everyone else around me when this happened.... oh and not hard or fast mind you. Well, needless to say this thread is about my accident, I couldn't stop from hitting the lady that hit the other person... I needed that extra foot  Part of my hitting this person was a contribution from just having new tires put on my car and not wearing through the outer hard coat yet. So as I slid into the rear end of this pile up I left no tracks nor any smoke... I just slid.

Well, the back end of her car was still perched up and my car being lowered i just slid right under her bumper, leaving all the damage to occur above my crash bar.

Good news that they are replacing the aftermarket parts.

So basically it is advised to give a new set of tires a good spin prior to driving in heavy traffic?

Lol... I guess.... I couldn't believe how I just slid. It was almost like being on Ice... who knows if there was something from the prior accident on the road that got on my tires as well...

This is the shop that I took Audry too after the one lady decided to back her car into Audry when I was getting ready to do my swap. They did an awesome job on the paint matching, but there were some employee problems that they were having which resulted in some problems with the installation of parts on my car as well as other customers. They did get it squared away finally, but they kind of owed me a little for having to take my car back a couple of times. That and the owner being a friend of my brother in law I got a little bit of special treatment with being allow to bring in these parts.

The reason I took it back to them was because of their paint work (which was just awesome) and they know what my car is and how to deal with it. Now they get the chance to prove to me that they are up to the quality I was lead to believe they were the first time I took it to them.

That is very possible.

But it's good to hear that you won't have to deal with the crap of finding a new car and that you are OK.

Yeah... for a while there I had to seriously detach myself from Audry and all the work I put into her and honestly consider something else. I actually had a pretty cool plan laid out for the Scion Tc I was eyeing....

But I'm excited to not have a car payment  since Audry is mine free and clear. I'm currently working on a long term plan for her. She might get a small (under $150) welcome home gift...

If i get a new and better job it might still be a possibility. Then I'd go apeshit with Audry.

Truly... it'll be hard to find an affordable car that is as fast as the SRT4.

Very glad to hear you will be getting her right again

So, are you going with the SRT baffles like we discussed?
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

If your are referring to the structural openings for the IC designed for the SRT, then Yes. That is one of the changes that were made. Really because the shop didn't want to do the extra labor for cutting out the SXT when the SRT is already done.

You don't know the half of it... I was registered for a car show... not just any car show... my first car show that was to occur 4 days after I got involved in this accident. :(

Man I can hardly wait to have my freedom again  I'll obviously post pics of her coming home.

Thanks All!
