can anyone match some quality subs with this amp?

Post by crowd00control » Thu Aug 14, 2008 4:23 am

I have a Kicker KX1200.1 Amp with two blown subs and am just trying to figure out a ball park price range for new subs that match the amp.

So far 10" l5/l7's come into mind as well as the alpine type-r's.

I'd really like to try the 12" eclipse titaniums but don't know if they'll match up.

Any input or suggestions would be great.

to perfectly match a sub or subs, i need to know whats the size of the fuse or fuses on that amp because that is what determines the real world power output of the amp

ok then under the assumption that its a true 1200w amp @2ohms 14.4v i wold recomend 2 SWR-1222D's

they are low cost high quality subs but you HAVE to get the SWR-1222D's NOT the SWR-1242D's becuase with the 42's you wont be able to get to 2ohms and with the 22's you will.

wire the coils in a series on both subs and run both subs parallel to the amp and youll have a 2ohm load

just get you some kicker L5 series 10's and it would do great. The L5 series doesn't run a ton of cash. Or another great option is the Pheonix gold RSDC series subs. Those things don't cost a ton of cash and those things hound! IF i can get everything worked out right for the car and get moved and still have cash i am going to get 4 of these and run a pair from each of the KX1200.1 amps I have. The RSDC series are 600w RMS and have a crazy excursion on them. around here you can walk into a audio store and get a pair for like $150 for tens and twelves run $170.

k heres the breakdown of the subs in question all taken from the manuals from thier websites

SWR-1222D
DVC@2ohm each
500wRMS; 1500wpeak
23hz-500hz
85db sensitivity (1w@1m)
65mm excursion
480cm^3 cone area

PCI-PNXRSDC122
DVC@2ohm each
600wRMS-1200w peak
27hz-250hz
82db sensitivity (converted to 1w/1m from 94.1db@2.83v.. hmm thats a little misleading on thier behaf)
no frequency resonce listed
no cone area listed
no exursion listed

L512 (2ohm)
DVC@2ohm each
600wRMS; 1200wpeak
86.9db sensitivity (1w/1m)
10-100hz responce
452.16cm^3 cone area
no excursion listed

power handleing: the phoenix and the kicker are identical but the alpine has a wider range

sensitivity: the poenix sub was misleading but after converting it both the kicker and the alpine have twice the SPL potential with the kicker being slightly ahead

responce: the kicker has amazing low end performance for a 12. the other 2 are better all arround with the alpine having a better range

the alpine can move more air than the kicker dispite the square sub gimick. hte poenix has absolutely no data on this end so i cant judge but on paper the alpine is a way better all arround sub with an MSRP of $220.99 and avarage online price is $150-$180... remember you get what you pay for

When in doubt...get type r's.

These things can handle 2000w RMS of clean power and i personally think they sound pretty damn good...espeically for the price.

onlinecarstereo.com usually has best prices btw.
