I went to the local body shop today and asked them for a quote on fixing my bumper (I hit a cement base of one of those tall-ass parking lot lights) and asked if they would paint the chrome parts body color too, and they said that paint will not stick very well. Is this true? I'm sure you could sand all the chrome plate off the plastic....and I don't wanna buy R/T unpainted ones from them.

they are true, it wont stick very well. However the best you can do is get some ajax, comet or simillar rough cleaner and some rough scotch pad and scuff the crap out of the grill. then get yourself some quality paint and spray away.

I've used Castrol Super Clean to take off chrome plating off scale model parts....would it possibly work with these too? Just soak them in a bucket for awhile?

Give it a try and let us know. I'm interested to see how it will turn out, I'm contemplating doing something with my chrome pieces as well.

Maybe it's different, but I just washed mine with soap and water and rattle canned it with Krylon Fusion. It seems to be holding up rather nicely so far.
