Funniest RO Ever!!!! LOL

Post by LilSparkPlug » Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:43 pm

I posted this in my Progress thread along with my Pan gasket updates from this morning. But since not everyone reads those I figured I'd share over here in OT. Chris is a killer tech not to mention he's friggin hilarious. I've never had so much fun underneath a car. Then it comes time to close out the RO....he tells me he's gonna write a story. He wrote one alright....

This is Chris' story....

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

LOL... cool!

I'm having my own oil pan gasket replaced sometime this week after it "crying" for over a year now. Haha.

Mine is being done at 105,000 miles on the 2.0 engine. Given that the dealer had the gasket in stock I'm wondering if replacing it is a fairly common job.

Chris said the replacement on 2.7Ls, 2.0Ls and the other 2.4Ls are more common. I had to order my gasket and adapter gasket. Figure the pressure in the pan after awhile with everything sloshing around its going to leak eventually. Mine wasn't leaking, but seeping so to speak. I'll post a picture. It just had a nice layer of seepage all around, especially under the structural collar. The job was relatively cheap and really easy. I took it to them because I'd rather pay them the $144 to do it and have it done perfectly with everything torqued right, and done in half the time.

Yes Anthony....102,000 miles and the motor looks like it only has 20,000 miles on it once the pan was off. He was amazed...so was I. But I was pleased.

This friggin RO still makes me laugh.

Here was my pan before, you can't see all the "crustiness" around the edge in this picture, but the oil never touched the ground.

Ha ha some techs are cool you just have to find them. And not only is he cool, he's actually GOOD at what he does. Very good.

I change things in VERY strict intervals.

Spark Plugs - 6k
PCV - 6k
Oil - 3k
Tranny fluid (with friction modifier) - 12k usually sooner though
Brake fluid/Coolant/PS fluid - Flush n Fill once a year
Wires: This is my third set, I may change them soon but they aren't arcing yet.

I think thats about it but I'm probably forgetting stuff. I've never had any internal transmission work done. The only thing that went was the clutch fork. And when it went I just replaced everything (clutch, slave, flywheel, TOB, fork)

Cost me $141.61 for the same job on the 2.0L engine here this morning.

I supplied the gasket, filter and oil... so that price excludes the parts.

Yay! No more oil pan leaks!

Wow your dealer's price must be pretty close to mine, because mine w/out parts was 144.00 flat. I bought, oil pan gasket, adapter gasket, filter, oil and the oil dipstick tube just in case that was leaking too.

It is good to see that for essentially the same job the cost was pretty much the same... unless there is a cross-border garage conspiracy to screw customers. LOL

I've been going to this independent garage for a year now and so far they have done good work and have my trust... not only that but the place is about a mile from where I live so very convenient.

Here's to no more oil pan leaks for both of us!
