Auto Up

Post by REKIII » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:42 am

I have an old BMW that has the coolest feature. Auto down AND up on all windows.

Anyone ever take apart the neon doors and try to do this?

It is an awesome feature. I'd love for my neon to do it.

I know what you're talking about, but I have no idea how to do it. I know that my '01 caravan has this standard for the drivers side window. You just push down a little farther, it'll click, you release, and the window goes all the way down.... Strange how it doesn't have the same feature for rolling up the window...

i wouldnt take my word here butttt... if it follows same electrical rules as say a door bell vs. door chime. All that is needed is a capacitor to store some juice and when that extra click is made it will expend the juice and continue to roll the window. I really have no idea but would like to have this option too. Hope this gets the ball rolling

My Cherokee had that feature, worked for about a month. I didn't care much for it, as it was too easy to activate it. When I just wanted to crack the window it would take off, and you had to roll it back up. :cussing: So yeah, that was one warranty item that never got fixed.
I would think the "down only" on newer cars is a saftey feature, so a child doesn't hit it and roll their head or neck up in the window, strangling them.

I thought it might be a safty hazard too, but after closer looking, there is a sensitive strip on the top edge of the window. If you touch this durring an auto up sequence, it will stop the window and back it off an inch.

Obviously this wouldn't be on a modified neon window circuit, but it is cool.

Make friends with someone that works at a dealership or can give you schematics for the window wiring of a car that has the auto down feature. BlackRoseRacing or Danteneon may be able to help you if they have the extra time.

Then hit a junkyard and tear one of the cars with the autodown feature apart.

Thats how I would do it, also you would need the switch from that car. I would pick one of the older cars that has the same style switch to minimize the amount of customization and keep it stock, thats my style though.

i'd love an auto down/open sunroof button for both windows... and an auto up.

my other car has up and down on all 4 windows and the sunroof (and i love it!). some of the european models did not have this feature and people researched it quite extensivley. i cannot recall all the info but in the end it proved to be too expensive and detailed for anyone to add it on. it involved all sort of things like pressure sensors, capacitors, relays, and an entirely new wiring harness to the door.
