complicated cruise questions

Post by drummerdude » Thu Aug 21, 2008 12:15 pm

First Off, please only answer this if you KNOW 100% what you are saying is 100% accurate.

OK, here we go, I have a 2000 Chrysler Neon LX MTX. It has everything but cruise, sunroof, and a CD changer. I bought the car for my wife, so she wouldn't have to struggle to get the stroller and car seat in my 2 door 1999 XXXXX XXXXX. I got to good of a deal to pass this car up, but she says it has to have cruise. If I am going to start changing parts I like the 03-up steering wheel and cruise controls better.

What is different in cruise control parts from the 00-02 and 03-up neon.

What EXACTLY will I need to convert this to cruise from 03-up with 03-up steering wheel.

I know the steering wheel will bolt up, my haynes repair manual wiring scheme says a wire coming from the controls on 00-02 goes to a ground, and on the 03-up it goes to the PCM for its ground, I don't know if it has to go to the PCM, could I just ground it, Could I put an 03-up PCM, and run a wire for it? will the connectors from the clockspring connect properly. I want it to llok factory 03-up of course.

Thanks in advance, if you need to ask me anymore questions, to help with an answer feel free to do so.

One thing you may want to consider is getting the cruise control kit from Chrysler. Part #82208100AB...MSRP $231.00 It will come with install directions and the switches needed. Then it's a matter of getting your steering wheel.

As far as the wiring end...I don't know. Chrysler doesn't list the install directions PDF so I can't compare the two. One would think that the speed control could be made to work with slight modification however.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

I know there are some dealers online that sell parts at discounted prices.

Try this one...http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ ... eid=214014

That is OEMDodgeparts, and they list the kit for $200.10

I will preface this post with "I could be wrong" because i've never converted this before.

Check your throttle body. When I replaced mine I had to reconnect two throttle cable things to it. If you see two throttle cables on yours, I know one of them is used for cruise control. You probably only have one, so therefore you may need a new throttle body at the least.

the cam on the throttle body has a second groove for the cruise cable.
